Lost in Minneapolis 7-3. The Tigers had all three runs in the 4th inning. Four hits all game. A 30 degree night in Minnesota is great for baseball...
I just checked the box score - 12,500+ in paid attendance. Watching the game, it looked like there was about half that many in the stands. I’m guessing that they 1) wished they were still playing under a dome or 2) wished they would’ve canceled the game and played a doubleheader as it’s going to warm up as the week goes on
They had a whole paradox with the Metrodome in that it kept fans comfortable indoors and also gave the Twins a massive homefield advantage because when sold out it was noisy as hell and the surface and roof both made routine plays unpredictable. But they also faced a problem in that people in an area with short summers don't want to be indoors during the summer (this also helped kill the Montreal Expos) which held their attendance down. MLB was ready to contract the franchise in 2001 and the owner would have cashed out to do so, but the city sued to keep them from breaking the lease on the Metrodome.
Ideally they'd have a retractable roof, but those are expensive as hell to build, public money was needed and the Vikings were demanding a new stadium at the same time. So they got an outdoor park. And as MLB insists on beginning the season in March so the World Series doesn't run into November, you get outdoor baseball in Minnesota (and Detroit, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, etc.) in less than ideal conditions.

Regularly scheduled day/night double-headers would alleviate that quandary, but apparently that ship has sailed.
I won't dwell on the Tigers' lousy start, but am glad to see Colt Keith coming into his own as a hitter. While all the huzzahs have been on McGonigle, Keith has shown both discipline and pop at the plate. Meanwhile, our power bats, namely Tork and Greene, have shown neither.

Good column in the Detroit Free Press about what Keith did to improve.
“The key for me is just going to be making sure I stay loose,” Keith said. “When I reflect back on it, I feel like I've tried very hard to have success early in the season, and that correlates to me being tight and trying to muscle up. That's never good when you're trying too hard at something. So that's my goal. Just try to be smooth and play loose and play free at the same time, attacking the pitcher, attacking the ball, attacking everything, but also being under control and making sure that I'm loose.”
His goal was to find the swing mechanics that he had in 2022 and ’23 when he was hitting his way through the minor leagues. “I had a little bit of a leg raise and better timing, more flowy of a swing, instead of a stagnant, robotic swing,” Keith said.

Minnesota Twins - The Legion of Broom
Brings back memories of that miserable 1987 ALCS, the worst experience of my 50 years of following Detroit sports.
Nah. The Pistons losing in the NBA Finals in 1988 (despite having a 4 point lead with :51 to play in game #6), the Wings pissing away game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final in Pittsburgh in 2009 only to lose at home in game 7, the Tigers shitting the bed in the 2013 ALCS against Boston, and the Lions blowing a 17 point halftime lead in the NFC Championship are all worse, in my opinion.
Anyone paying $19.99 a month to watch the Tigers on TV isn't getting their money's worth.

Game 163 in 2009 always stands out to me. That and game 7 in 2005. The Pistons were this close.

Those were all bad, with the Wings loss probably the most depressing. But for me, the 1987 ALCS came after I spent the weekend at Tiger Stadium watching the Tigers sweep Toronto to win the division. The emotional pain of that ALCS was real, and I've tried not to take things so seriously since then. Interestingly, the most depressing experience since that ALCS was probably the 2018 UM/OSU football game, when OSU beat higher-rated and favored UM 62-39.
Probably Perez. He's not in the Mud Hens lineup tonight while Clark is.
Meadows is staying the night in Minneapolis. While there's time to get him back to Detroit tomorrow morning, my prediction is he lands on the 7 day concussion DL.

I was solo backpacking in the Porcupine Mountains at the time. One night I shared a campsite with a group from, yes, Minnesota. Just in passing while chatting around the campfire I brought up the series and one of the guys told me the outcome. Needless to say, my exhilaration turned south. What I found more annoying was that none of them seemed to give a shit!

Meadows on the DL. It's speculated he'll miss "significant time".
Perez up for now, but if the offense continues to sputter and Max Clark keeps hitting, they'll make a change.
We're gonna miss Meadows roaming center field, but Javy looks right at home out there. For some strange reason, Javy seems to hit better when he's playing CF.
Oh, and we won 2-0 last night behind Montero.

Other than Baez, the team couldn’t string hits together against former Tiger Chris Paddack. The offense is clearly sputtering. Pitching, especially Montero won this game.
The promised duel in the finale between Skubal and Alcantara morphed into a Tigers blowout with dingers from Dingler (3 RBI), Carpenter, and McGonigle (3 for 4). Everyone hits!
