Nothing screams "D" (Detroit) like a lilly white outlying suburb!

The media must love the northwestern suburbs for remote broadcasts. From WJR host Paul Smith's column in today's Detroit News:

I was telling my WJR listeners about a great little family restaurant I had never been to, and I said, without hesitation, “we ought to do our show from a new restaurant every week.” After all, we’re on the air every day from noon to 2 p.m., which is lunch time.

Going through life with ADHD, I often blurt out things before fully thinking them through. Immediately after saying it, I realized how much more work that would be for me and my team. Leading me to then utter, “well, if I were 10 years younger, that would be a great idea.”

This led my much younger (and very bright) executive producer, Mike Parsons, to keep the idea alive by suggesting, “maybe we could do it once a month.”

We shall see.

The place that got me all excited is Genitti’s Hole in the Wall on Main Street in Northville. It's been a great family landmark since 1971. While there, I was greeted warmly by owner Laura Genitti, server Patty and Jenny, the cook.

They’ve picked two of the nicest ones. All they need now is Novi.

I've always thought WXYZ and WDIV had more stories about Oakland and Macomb county and richer areas of Wayne county than Fox 2, I always thought fox 2 made way more effect to make stories of the inner city of detroit and inner working class suburbs that arent negative.

Almost assuredly that’s because there are more folks with money to buy advertisers stuff in those areas than inner city Detroit.

Ugh, that's right. Don't get me started on the State Fair. I have lamented the end of the real State Fair, at the old Fairgrounds in Detroit, for a long time. I used to go all the time as a kid. I miss it being there. I've never even gone to the Novi version, it doesn't feel like it's real. That's another thing that left for the suburbs!

Back then, Plymouth Road took a route down part of Main Street in Plymouth, then continued west on what is now Ann Arbor Trail to what is now Ann Arbor Road at the county line.

Interestingly, right next to this map was an article about the "concrete highway" development in Wayne County during the previous twenty years. The article was written by Edward N. Hines, Chairman of the Board of County Road Commissioners.

This was supposed to open in September, so I drove by it this afternoon.

There's no sign that any work has been done on this project since it was announced three months ago.

I drive past there all the time. For a while after the announcement the windows weren't covered and there was nothing noticeable going on. The windows are covered with banners now that include the Local 4 logo so it probably isn't dead but time will tell.

I saw through one of the windows that wasn't covered with a banner. It was just a quick glance, but it looked like old stuff had been removed, but no renovation had started. Had a very dusty look.

I'd guess they will open during the winter, when there is more of a demand for coffee shops.

A restaurant, car dealer, strip mall contacts their friendly sales rep, pays a fee and buys a certain number of spots. They get a radio personality on site doing their show. For a time, WXYZ had a couple of trailers and almost never did a show from Broadcast House.
