89X returns?

The new 89x sounds a LOT like the river was from about 2011 on to it's end mixed with the "sissy bands" MW used to complain that 89x played, lol

I imagine Default will probably be a common band to be played on this station or Sam Roberts, I HOPE TO GOD they don't become a frequent nickelback station like 96.3 was to Lifehouse.

Pretty sure I heard "Brother Down" by Sam Roberts yesterday. Personally, Colonel Flagg enjoys the Can-Con songs. 89X played "Bobcaygeon" by the Hip last night.

I'm loving this mix, personally. MW makes a good point that it is quite a bit different than the old 89X. It doesn't have the harder edge that the station used to have. None of the harder rock or nu metal bands. I prefer it that way, but I don't know if anyone will be disappointed because it IS a departure. They also used to play a lot of Kid Rock and a lot of Eminem, and that's all mostly gone (the only Eminem song they're playing, I believe, is "Lose Yourself.") No Staind, no Puddle of Mudd, etc. etc.

IMO the PD decided they shouldn't sound too close to the Riff anymore because we all know how 89X got burned last time. (Dave & Chuck stealing their audience.) If you sound less like WRIF to start with, though... I mean, why try to duplicate what they're doing, after all? I never really thought Metallica belonged on an alternative station anyway. (Granted, everything I'm saying about the Riff is just my assumption. I have no idea what they sound like now because I don't listen to them.)

Have you tried CoOL-FM on 100.7? I'm further out from it than you are, and I can usually hear it fine. On the odd occasion, it's clearer than 95.1. Although, I'm probably at a slightly higher elevation over here.

A bit off topic, but this is a weird one. I've been listening to 89X and seeing their playlist on this website: https://onlineradiobox.com/ca/cimx/playlist/
It popped up on my iPhone that this Online Radio Box has an app, so I figured, sure. On the app, I searched "CIMX" and what comes up but a listing for 89X, complete with the old logo. So I clicked on that, and it wasn't 89X at all. Someone has essentially taken the identity of the old 89X and put what looks like a metal playlist up. Very weird. No idea where this stream is actually coming from! I just thought it was amusing, kind of a digital version of radio piracy. If you search "Pure Country 89," the real stream comes up. I'm sure this was easy enough to do, on an app that's really not maintained in any way. Just spoof the stream that for years had been sitting unused.

Yes. 100.7's signal here is abysmal. Too much interference from the LPFM in Ferndale. I'm not on a hill or anything, so CKUE-1's short tower and low ERP don't do well here.

I can hear 100.7 CKUE-1 crackly on 1 radio in the house. The others cannot pick it up at all.

When tropo is active, the Chatham signal sometimes booms in with a stereo signal.

I am in Macomb County, and I can only hear it with my Drake SW8 at night, mostly during e skip months(usually October and November).

I know it's good when I am choosing to listen to it over Sirius XM. My subscription for Sirius XM expires 9/17, and I have zero plans to renew if this keeps going.

E-skip is a somewhat different phenomenon that tropospheric ducting.

E-skip occurs higher in the atmosphere (in the ionosphere) and often involves hearing stations from 1000+ miles away.

Tropo is what causes Chatham, London, Sarnia, Lansing and sometimes Cleveland FM stations to be listenable (or more listenable) in SE Michigan.

Right on. It's the first FM preset we've had in a long, long time. I only checked out SXM when 89x was in spots.

As for 100.7, I hate you all. I have WITL pounding in at 100.7 and there's no nulling it out.

Cool FM is just OK. There's actually too much obscure stuf and too much wimpy stuff on that station for my liking. When it first came along, it was a true variety hits station. These days, I'd call it Rock AC with a heavy Canadian artist lean.

If you want to hear the station badly, it is available on TuneIn (under the Detroit section). Their stream is high quality.

You can get Lansing and Ann Arbor market stations we cannot get (not to mention WHMI), so it evens out.

That reminds me, Stacks 92.1 puts The Bounce to shame.
