WJR does well. They have strong billing numbers. Many advertisers and they hold their own.

Maybe Sports talk would work.

With as much bitching as I see about 97.1, I would think it wouldn’t be hard to siphon off more than a 1.7. They have only ever been challenged by the laughable lame effort by 105.1(?) some ten years ago.

They would need more play by play rights than just MSU to have a shot at some success. You would have to be local most of the day, and with engaging hosts. People don’t want just local in morning and afternoon drive and national stuff off the bird. Who would you hire?

Funny you brought this up. I listen to two of the shows on WJR (the rest are unlistenable), and I bitch to my wife at how awful the other shows are. She says to me, "what else can they do? Play music? No one listens to AM anymore except old people and radio nuts like you. Whatever change they make, 1.7 is what they'll get, so why bother?"

I don't know if she's right, but I haven't bitched since, cause her retort kind of made sense to me.

Funny you brought this up. I listen to two of the shows on WJR (the rest are unlistenable), and I bitch to my wife at how awful the other shows are. She says to me, "what else can they do? Yet WABC has 3.2, KFI has 4.6. Chicago has 3 AM stations in the Nielsen top 10: WBBM, WGN, WSCR. WJR is not fated to have such low numbers, they have earned them.

I would simulcast on 96.3 for a few months and have 96.3 become WJR FM. Sell 760 to some religious outfit and that would be it. I'm sure the religious broadcasters can afford whatever the offer is.

Oh my gosh this would so awesome. Some kid flips on 96.3 to hear a song by the Beibs, and instead hears to two guys bitching about the government stealing our gas powered cars and forcing us to buy electric. Yep, that's a winner!

WBBM AM and FM are rated separately by Nielsen, with FM way down the list. In any case, are you trying to argue that WJR's 1.7 share is inevitable regardless of programming decisions made in the past or in the future? WJR's ratings seem particularly anemic for a 50 kW Clear Channel flagship compared to many other cities.

Oh my gosh, I can’t imagine any kid today even listening to AM or FM radio. All these spoiled brats already have smartphones at the age of 12 (maybe even younger) and they’re streaming Spotify, Pandora or Apple Music. Of course Mommy and Daddy have to make sure that these brats are going to get their way and get that smartphone for them.
