Things I've noticed on SXM...
Granted, I have only a core set of channels I frequent, but this is what I've noticed since resubbing:
- 80s on 8's imaging voice is grating. Playlist is slowly expanding (thank God) but whoever the hell they use now for voiceover work is HORRID. She should be nowhere near a microphone (normally I'd reserve that criticism for Nina Blackwood, but she has competition now).
- Lithium has mercifully expanded their playlist. Hearing lighter artists in the rotation now, and some deeper cuts (to me, anyway).
- The Spectrum sounds coherent for once. Hearing more newer titles compared to the classic rock they were OD'ing on for so long.
- Xtra channels are somewhat decent.
- Classic Rewind and Classic Vinyl are still repetitive as usual.
- The Loft needs more care. Meg Griffin's show is the only program on there that's worth a damn.
- Even after being exiled to internet only, Deep Tracks still sounds excellent.
- Nice to know there's a prog rock channel on the app now.
- John Mayer's channel is surprisingly decent. Could do without the other "artist/influencer created' channels that have a similar playlist to the main ones (Unwell Radio, for example, is redundant).
Overall, I'm not upset for resubscribing since I'm in a radio wasteland, but will I renew? Time will tell at this rate...

I'm loving the Idiot Nation (Green Day) channel that's on FactionPunk. Lots of good artists and some great Green Day deep cuts. They're not afraid to go WAY back, either. I heard fucking Agent Orange on there the other day.
Alt2k pulls out some good stuff.
I'm sick to death of Wallflowers, Third Eye Blind, New Radicals and Fall Out Boy. Wallflowers especially, they were a B tieired band (at best) 30 years ago. The problem is, those groups fit on so many stations, they probably can't help it.
Fly and Rock the Bells radio are P1s for me, also.
I'm starting to really enjoy Prime Country. Reception of Duke FM can be spotty here.
All in all, a great service to have!

(The other artists I'll agree with you on, however.)I'll probably keep the sub, I have it free for the next few months. Might check out that Green Day channel sometime.
I haven't spent much time with Fly or Rock the Bells, but I was surprised I still had them as presets. And yes, Alt2K is excellent. I also like the Indie 1.0 Xtra channel on the app.
Beats the shit out of the radio dial where I live. Except for a group of stations that actually sound professional and NPR, it's amateur hour at best. Example: we have a supposed rhythmic CHR that plays '90s grunge (yep) and K-LOVE is practically on every other frequency. So SXM is damn near a necessity.

Re: Things I've noticed on SXM...
I keep forgetting about the Green Day themed channel. I will try to check it out this week.
Buc-ee's sucks! Stay the hell away from my state.
Re: Things I've noticed on SXM...
I wish they'd play more East Bay bands in their heyday. Mr. T Experience, Screeching Weasel, Squirtgun, Pansy Division, Operation Ivy...all in all, I wish they'd keep it as a full-time station. They have 1st Wave, why not a punk themed channel that goes back?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2026 5:10 pm I keep forgetting about the Green Day themed channel. I agree with the John Mayer praise. Never really was a fan of him and his music, until I started listening to the station.
If it does come time to resusscribe, just keep bargaining and bargaining with them until you reach a figure you like. They will do anything to keep you.

I have the Sirius app and cast music to a Bluetooth speaker. In the search mode, I punched in John Hiatt. Now there is no dedicated Hiatt channel, but the music that comes up is his songs, along with others similar, Lyle Lovett. Bonnie Raitt, etc.
Is this all AI picking music for me?

I think it's Pandora's algorithm they're utilizing for it.Honeyman wrote:I have the Sirius app and cast music to a Bluetooth speaker. In the search mode, I punched in John Hiatt. And of course you picked one of the artists they rarely if ever play on a live channel. I might hear "Have a Little Faith In Me" on the Spectrum once in a blue moon, and honestly, as a fan of John, that's sad.

Saw him for the umpteenth time a year and a half ago. Still sounding good.

I thought the exact same thing about the new voice on 80s….ugh that’s horrid.thatonedude wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2026 6:39 pm Granted, I have only a core set of channels I frequent, but this is what I've noticed since resubbing:

I do feel similar about the voice on 70s on 7 (Jonathon). He sounds like he’s half asleep. Although I will say when they gave him an air shift on the weekends, he sounded fine.
Re: Things I've noticed on SXM...
The Saturday night "mix shows" need to be cut down, also. Pop2k, Lithium, rock the bells and Fly all have mix shows at the same time. I'd like to keep at least one or two of them in regular format. The Lithium one is really just mash ups circa 2006.

Re: Things I've noticed on SXM...
Yeah, Lithium does NOT need a mix show. What idiot came up with that? Rock the Bells and Fly -- I mean, that makes sense, but '90s alt is not a genre that works that way.MegaHertz wrote:The Saturday night "mix shows" need to be cut down, also. I will say, and I know some of the music isn't up your alley, but the Spectrum's Saturday night programming is great. Less of a focus on slower cuts, and they break out stuff that you wouldn't expect on there that *should* be on the regular playlist.

Re: Things I've noticed on SXM...
I'm willing to try it. I just think it's shitty that the two classic based hip hop stations do mix shows. Give me at least one normal format.thatonedude wrote: ↑Sat Aug 01, 2026 7:17 pmYeah, Lithium does NOT need a mix show. What idiot came up with that? I've sampled Spectrum a few times but I'll check out the Saturday night show.

I agree that the mix show on Lithium is very stupid.
