I was watching TV at about 5:30 this morning when I remembered that the Olympics had started in Milan, Italy, where it was the middle of the day.

I turned to Channel 4, which has hyped their Olympics coverage endlessly for the last two months. They were showing Inside Edition.

I then turned to CBC, where they were showing the Men's Alpine Downhill skiing live. What a fun way to start the day, with the sunlit mountains and the exciting competition. The drone camera work was incredible, as it followed the skiers down the hill.

NBC is well known for showing events on delay if there's a large time zone difference. CBC has always been live.

I've been watching Dropkin and Tiesse take a dump today. I can understand losing to GB but Korea? The next two weeks are going to be busy watching for me. Peacock lets you watch everything in real time or replay.

I enjoyed the opening ceremony except I just kept feeling that USA were the assholes in the room. Vance being there had a chilling effect. He was the only person boo'd in the ceremony and really had no business being there.

It's obvious that it was foolish, but there was probably a lot of pressure from different directions to have her participate. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes something like this to convince people that something shouldn't have been done, or something should change.

The Peacock app is the way to go for watching the Games. They show everything as it happens live, and you can switch to whatever sport you want, and can also replay whatever you want.

That sounds tempting. The live coverage on CBC is nice, but this morning there were more commercials than action.

CBC-TV will also carry 22 hours a day of live coverage.

It's obvious that it was foolish, but there was probably a lot of pressure from different directions to have her participate. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes something like this to convince people that something shouldn't have been done, or something should change.

On an upbeat note, how can one not feel very happy for new American downhill gold medalist, 30 year-old Breezy Johnson! I could barely subdue my tear ducts during her post-competition interview (on NBC).

I was really happy for Breezy, her recovery from a bad start was amazing. I'm sort of miffed that the freaking announcers were talking about Vonn as Breezy was cueing up in the gate. Johnson should have been the belle of the race. They only gave her due mention after Vonn was hauled off in the helicopter.

Our USA Mixed Doubles Curlers beat Estonia (2nd in the world) in a squeaker this morning.

Truth be told, if Roone Arledge were alive to watch the coverage he'd be both amazed and humbled. This is a guy who spend several million dollars of ABC Sports money (back when millions of dollars from ABC Sports was a considerable amount of cash) attempting to bring an NHL experience to television. He said if he could figure out how to put that on the screen, hockey would be as big as the NFL. Rented a rink somewhere in NJ and rolled in the most technologically advanced TV production trucks, which at the time were the "Monday Night Football" units. They stayed there, fully manned for a week. He couldn't crack the nut.

Point being, Arledge would have loved seeing those follow-drone shots careening down the luge. Tiny embedded cameras in all manner of places. The Peacock Multi-Cast where you can watch up to six events real-time on one screen. All (or most) in 4K resolution with multichannel sound from a half a world away.

ABC Sports had its golden age in his time, like it or not, NBC Sports golden age is happing right now.

USA Curling is going for the Gold (finals) match against Sweden tomorrow at Noon. Worse case, they win Silver.

They just beat Italy (the best team in the world) knocking them to the Bronze round against GB.

Regarding CBC live coverage timing versus NBC, this YouTuber that lives in upstate New York who geeks out on TV reception (in a good way) found that the CBC was 9 seconds ahead of NBC's live broadcast--at least for speed skating:

As he mentioned, there aren't that many live events that are simultaneously on both the CBC and NBC, as they can chose to show different sports, of course.

I'm a subscriber to his YouTube, and am wondering if he'll comment on the Super Bowl. Then again, is the Super Bowl even OTA (over the air) in Canada? Since I'm in West Michigan, I don't know first hand.
