How much total airtime does Bernie Smilovitz get in a typical week? I'm guessing about 25 minutes. And for that he makes how much? He must have pictures.

Seems like Bernie gets maybe three minutes each at 6:00 and 11:00...when he's on, that is. He's been off air for the last week or so, without any explanation that I'm aware of. And Jamie Edmonds is off too (maternity leave, maybe?), so they've pressed the recently-added Hobie Artigue into action, who at least has a background in sports reporting. One day last week WDIV had to use Rod Meloni to do a sportscast, and it's just jarring to me to see a major outlet like 'DIV having to plug square pegs into round holes like that.

They’ve always seemed to have a 2 person sports team… Steve Garagiola used to do it often.

I loved it when Steve did sports, I thought he was easily the best at it at channel 4. Although, with his sports background, maybe that isn’t too surprising.

I’ve also seen Jason Colthorp step in as substitute sports guy on occasion. I thought he did pretty good as well. Frankly, Bernie is the person I least prefer to see doing it.

It's probably time for Bernie to hang it up. He hasn't done a decent sports report in a really really long time.

Bernie has a lot of money. It's time for someone younger to make money there. They won't ever make the tens of millions that he made. I heard that $300,000 was standard for an evening sports guy in Detroit during the '90s. Heck, I know for a fact that in the '00s, Charles Pugh was making over $200,000 for Saturday and Sunday mornings on 2.

He's got something on some high up exec. Bernie should have been shown the door at least 12 years ago yet here we are with the same ol schtick and all the anchors laughing non stop at his stupid jokes. I'm convinced there is a clause in their contract to laugh non stop at Bernie's jokes.
