Another thing they could try is this. I'm not making a prediction, it's just technically possible.

31.1 - Remains Ion, but uses 720p resolution
31.2 - Bounce moves here from channel 7.2 and upgrades to 720p
38.1 - Same programming, but also switches to 720p
38.2 - CW programming winds up here with 720p

Both channels 7 and 20 are 720p unless you watch them over the ATSC 3.0 signal. I am now wondering if The CW will become another Syndication Service rather than a network soon. That is what happened to MyNetworkTV.

You left out The Three Stooges. Maybe Bill Kennedy has grandchild who can host a movie.

"I remember cartoons back in the day. :)"
Speed Racer and Rocky & Bullwinkle, and the monster movies on Thursdays on channel 7 were favorite after school fare.

Here is one TV ratings link for the shows and the broadcast networks.

Zero. No way a Scripps station is going to link up with Nexstar.
20 has Antenna TV on a subchannel, and that's owned by Nexstar

Scripps owns 16 stations that are affiliated with The CW, either as a primary or a subchannel:

Yes, because ultimately this is business. If both Nexstar and Scripps think that this is best for their bottom lines, then CW20 will happen. It makes sense for Nexstar to have CW on 20 rather than 31 or 38. The question is whether Scripps thinks CW programming can bring in more people than their current syndicated schedule. And why not? Is Chicago Fire five nights a week really that big of a draw?

We may have an answer to where CW programming will move...
https://mibuzzboard.com/phpBB3/viewtopi ... =3&t=62237
My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!

Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

If you ask me, I think that 50 and 62 should swap programming. If CBS goes to 50, they can gain back some of the dignity they once had. It really makes no sense for Viacom to have an independent station with a lower channel number than their CBS station.

Or even better, WWJ should make an offer to WHNE to swap virtual channel numbers.
