CW 50 to ditch The CW, return to independence

Unread post by mtburb »

https://deadline.com/2023/05/cbs-statio ... 235357388/

This September, CBS-owned CW affiliates will drop the network and become independent stations. Among those is WKBD, CW 50, which will revert back to independent status for the first time since the 1994-95 interim period between it losing Fox to WJBK and the launch of UPN.

It is currently unknown where in Detroit the CW affiliation will land, though it's likely it'll be grabbed by WADL, which already took the My Network TV block from WMYD in 2021.
My furthest DTV tropo: KDKA Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at 202 miles for three days in January 2017 and a night in September 2017 with only an Antennas Direct C2V!

Current setup: Antennas Direct C2Max (2018-present)

I'm sure it's on here somewhere.

Is there any chance that 20 would want to pick up The CW affiliation?

Zero. No way a Scripps station is going to link up with Nexstar.

WADL is the likely candidate. I wouldn't rule out a subchannel of WDIV.
I'd say a low power channel would be more likely than WMYD or WPXD.

A long shot but with all the RSN bankruptcy issues, the Phoenix Suns left Bally Sports for OTA games next season and Vegas Golden Knights left their RSN for Scripps Sports OTA, could we see this come back to Detroit where 20 or 50 becomes an OTA home for Detroit teams ?

The original Kaiser Broadcasting Ch50 was built around local sports like red wings hockey.

Would be nice to see a Wings or Tigers game occasionally aired on Ota. The more eyes on your product used to be a good thing. Now greed drives all sports in all aspects.

Problem is how do u fill the other time parts??? The three stooges and horror movie hosts are already being done via sub channels.

It will be interesting to watch how it develops....

Might make sense to move Family Feud to prime time on 50 and move Entertainment Tonight from the graveyard shift to the 7pm hour on 62.

We might see the Ion Network move to channel 20 and the CW move to 31 WPXD.

To be a little more specific Inyo Broadcast holdings and Scripps could make an agreement. The end result would look like this.

Channel 20-1 : Ion Television
Channel 31-1 : Bounce
Channel 31-2 : The CW

WADL would remain as is and channel 50 will still go independent this Fall.

How are the ratings for CW shows in the evening? I generally only watch 50 for older syndicated shows.
