I do agree he’s a homer with the Wings. He was much more entertaining with the Lions especially when they went 0-16. I think he was the one that joked they were 4-16, because of the preseason.

Wife and I are going out of town, so it’s unlikely I’ll listen to either show this week.
Even out of town you can always stream the show on several choices available on the internet. What better way of being out of town and tuning in our famed leader Ron!; can life get any better, I think not!

Interview with Red Wings announcer Paul Woods (Ron and Matt)
https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/7eb0a ... on-cameron
As is his wont when faced with a choice between "interviewing" a guest or updating/providing PBP for a live sporting event, Ron regularly chooses the latter, relegating his guest to a mere bystander role. Such was the case with his guest Paul Woods.

This pattern was on display at the outset & throughout the hour. Ron kept Paul waiting as he was more interested in covering the LSU-Alabama game. Before getting to his guest, Prof. Cameron butchered an ad for a skin clinic. "For smooth, aggravated skin," Ron pronounced before correcting himself. "Hydrated" skin!

When (finally) exchanging greetings to a barely audible Paul (a status that continued throughout the hour), Ron conceded he was "just hanging in there ... that's all I can say. Been a rough three months."

As always, there was talk of the "great job" frequent guest Ken Holland was doing in Edmonton.

Then came the first of many breakaways to the football game. When Matt gave the score, Ron said, "I can say that." A breakdown of the quarterback stats followed.

After another ad, Ron's attention turned to the MSU football game. The always well-groomed Ron said he "hate[d]" Lovie Smith's beard, as it maked him look like he was 80 years old.

Yet another later interruption for the game & more PBP. Ron refers to a member of the broadcast team. "My boy, [Gary| Danielson." "Phenomenal." A "great communicator." By now, we know that this is just not one broadcast professional admiring the work of another. No, there has to be a backstory that involves Ron. And Ron doesn't disappoint. He mentions an article about Danielson where, talking about the media, he observed - in Ron's telling - that "the one guy I appreciate in this town ... I really respect more than anybody else is Ron Cameron. He tells it like it his." ron added, "And I had never met him before then!" Ron goes on to recount later seeing Danielson at his then Auburn Hills steakhouse. "Don't say hello to me," he quotes Danielson. "I turn around ... Gary!!!!" Danielson, a "class act," introduced Ron to his son. No word, though, of whether the two hugged or if there was any accompanying laughter.

We also get much chatter about Ron's WSU football-affected upcoming schedule. And upcoming guests Mark (the Man) Wilson, Ike Blessit & Ken Holland. Mark, he said, agreed with him that Blake Griffin didn't want to play anymore, he was just there to collect his paycheck & just wanted to be an actor. More Griffin-bashing, Ron's favorite sport back then, followed.

The first call - from "Ken in Fraser" - didn't come until almost forty minutes in. Kurt in Fraser corrected Ron, telling him he was thinking of "Ken in Livonia" (of whom we may have already heard the last). A question about Robby Fabbri (pronounced "Fabray" by Kurt) predictably led Ron to launch into a discussion of Shelley Fabares & The Donna Reed Show. Too bad Martin wasn't on hand to spin "Johnny Angel."

The next - & last - caller was from Jim in Royal Oak, who wanted to know about Guy LaFleur's health. Rhymin' Ron wasn't on his "A" game because, alluding to LaFleur's tobacco habit, he merely said, "When you smoke you're asking for trouble."

Back to the LSU-Alabama game. Matt said, "they went for two & lost." "I know," Ron thundered, "I'm watching the thing. I can see it." Ron then gave the then-score, 39-27, without identifying which team was in the lead.

It's not unknown for someone to run for president just to increase his or her speaking fees. Just think, a candidate Ron could increase his speaking fees tenfold. From zero to zero.

Ron's campaign platform would consist of mandatory Cova testing & a salary cap of $100,000 for professional athletes.

Once ensconced in the White House, Ron would have busts of Wilt & Gordie in the Oval Office.

Here's the Gary Danielson story that Ron was referencing in the 11-9-19 show. It helped Gary earn the "great" and "phenomenal" labels that Ron gave him during that show.

Ron's memory of this short blurb created this quotation for Danielson: "The one guy I appreciate in this town, I really respect more than anybody else, is Ron Cameron. He tells it like it is."

Ron ushered out the hour by telling Paul that he was "fantastic!"
At times, it did seem like Ron immediately switched his attention to the Alabama/LSU game while Paul was answering a question. As rude as it sounded, Paul's probably used to it, and might welcome the break. At the end of the show, Paul chimed in with his own college football commentary, when he predicted that Michigan would beat Ohio State. Ron responded, "Paul, are we reaching you in a bar?" Ron got the last laugh three weeks later when OSU beat UM in Ann Arbor, 56-27.

The interview helped confirm what others have been saying about the upcoming Art Regner interview—hockey people get a free pass with Ron. At the time of this interview, the Red Wings were 5-12-1, but Ron didn't challenge Paul's optimism about the team, which would finish the year with a 17-49-5 record.

Matt showed great courage in making a Santa Claus joke about Lovie Smith's beard. I fully expected Ron to jump all over him for that comment, but nothing happened.

Ron got so distracted by the Alabama/LSU game that he said "We don't have much time left" with about 19 minutes left in the show. Maybe he was talking about the football game, but we'll never know. :?:

Ron once again demonstrated his attention to detail by telling us that the Sunday Brunch at Amore Da Roma was on Sunday.

Ron tried to bait Paul into commenting on Petr Mrázek's reputation as a "party animal" while he was with the Red Wings, but Paul didn't bite.

I must admit with the interesting mix of people ron has interviewed, a bit surprised he does not have Danielson’s number?

That must have been the catalyst for the two calls - the only calls that hour - that immediately followed. The inveterate clock watcher that he is, Ron always seems eager to end the misery by heralding a premature end of the hour.

It certainly helps that Ron is still accorded some respect by the Wings. Still has his press pass. The likes of Jimmy D., Paul Woods & now, perhaps, Art Regner still agree to be guests. Ron's a simple guy. If you treat him well, he'll return the favor.

The real question is: How many restaurants has Ron called now that he has his Yellow Pages? Being a one man operation, he may have to put in 18 hours days to hustle those ads! Either that, or only watch two episodes of Match Game a day and completely cut Password.

You can't hear the stream if your only option is to use your bluetooth. Then you get that garbled up sound. PON is the only station that it does this on. This is my issue that I cannot consistently listen to this trainwreck. Besides the signal coming from a pea shooter station and the non ability to stream it on the bluetooth, again the only station. They need to fix it but I'm sure with their budget it's the last thing they are concerned with.

On another note, Mr. Positive has an imposter on the airwaves. Someone called into Rigers show yesterday afternoon pretending to be Mr. P. I guess that could be a form of flattery when you have people wanting to imitate oneself.

Too bad Ron isn't on tomorrow. "No guts" McCosky says Combero is the team's hottest hitter.
