I’ve been listening to WOMC via my streaming device this evening. Did they really play Sabrina Carpenter a few minutes ago, or was that played instead of an advertisement that aired on terrestrial?

According to their playlist, "Manchild" was played right after the top of the hour.

Questioning if that was deliberate or not...

It's definitely deliberate. They have played it before during the "80s friday night". For some bizarre reason. They have also played a 2002 Kylie Minogue song during that block, and always have 90s music in it

I mean, the songs mentioned (betting that Kylie Minogue song is "Can't Get You Out of My Head") do have a vibe that would make them fit that block. In that way, it makes sense.

If you're doing a show called '80's Friday night'' or whatever, playing songs post 1989 makes zero sence.

I don't think radio executives understand the concept of an oldies/classic hits station.

Their thought process is to play newer music to attract a younger audience. Nobody turns on a station like this to hear music younger than them. They want to hear the same 60s music they heard as a kid on the station in the 80s and 90s.

Personally, I cannot stand 104.3. I think the programming 90% of the time is lazy at best (I will agree with you there wholeheartedly), and they could easily do more than what they do now. Whether that's local management or Audacy themselves directing it, I don't know, but they aren't what they were even ten years ago, and honestly, they weren't that good even then.

However, I can, to an extent, understand a little bit of what they do. I never said I liked what they did, but that it does make sense somewhat if they're trying to play songs that have a similar feel.

Clearly what they do works for some reason. Doesn't mean I agree with a damn bit of it.

But when they used to have a "90s at 9" block, instead of playing the Celine Dion properly there, they played 2000s music

There are alternatives: 94.7, 100.3, 106.7, and hell, I'll throw in 96.3.

None of those, including 104.3, are listenable to me at all, but there are alternatives for at-work listening.

104.3 just sounds horrid most of the time. They're coasting on brand heritage at this point, but the same could be said for the others I mentioned (except 106.7, there isn't much of an excuse for them).

Agree 100% most stations are coasting, and to say they are a shell of what they were 10 years ago would be an overstatment.
When GenX croaks off, probably even before that, FM radio will be what AM radio is now: Spoken word, religious, and brokered programming.

And they did it to themselves prematurally.

Was radio always going to die off? Yep.

But it could have thrived a lot longer than it did. That massive debt killed it.

Apparently the clown that is in charge is a total Douchebag. This is Detroit The Motor City, Dream Cruise Weekend the weekends end Sunday evening not any earlier.

Have not been to the Dream Cruise in a minute, but do remember an 'afterglow' on Sunday with lots of classic cars, and lots of people still watching. Not everyone wants to sit at a dead standstill for hours on Woodward on Saturday, and go out on Sunday. They absolulty could have dropped in some car songs with the regular playlist.

But what do I know, I'm just an armchair pd.
