Scripps Layoffs at 7??

Unread post by miketeevee »

I read about a bloodbath at several scripps stations today.

Was 7 immune to the layoffs or did it get hit too?

I know of at least one who got laid off, smart hard working young man who was a real asset to the team, damn shame. Between him and the the two go getters at Fox2 that got let go a month ago they could start a pretty decent local news blog. The stations cutting all of their young talented employees is a bad sign.

Scripps Cuts MI Jobs Amid Push In Streaming, Automation, AI

"The number of layoffs at Scripps’ Michigan stations was not immediately clear, but the company confirmed positions were impacted at WXYZ-TV (Ch. 7) in Detroit and WXMI-TV (Ch. 17) in Grand Rapids."

"We can confirm there are impacted positions at Scripps’ WXYZ in Detroit and Fox 17 in Grand Rapids," the statement read. "The impacted roles are primarily tied to digital and traditional newscast production workflows, with some positions including producers and directors."

The AI is a really bad idea. It’s gonna do some very strange things at times.

Multiple employees from wxyz have gone to social media saying they were unfortunately laid off.
Based on AI things Scripps is implementing i suspect they will have more cuts coming as well. Sucks.

So fortunate I dumped the business before it dumped me. AI will be a nightmare for more than those in this biz.

Just thrilled. When the technology (which isn’t actually “intelligent” at all) crashes and burns because it makes an unreal number of mistakes and IS NOT improving…. It’ll be a catastrophe. These companies are putting their eggs in a stupid basket.

They definitely fired their sound guys because the 6 PM and 11 PM weather forecasts sounded awful on YouTube.

I don't know if it's the same sound guy, or the same problem, but 7.3's audio has been getting screwed up for the last several days.

So how long for the world is Scripps anyways? They lost $1.15 billion (!) in Q2 up from a loss of around $30 million in Q2 2025. Apparently there was a massive impairment charge related to Scripps Networks.

Scripps sold CourtTV to Law and Crime Network for next to nothing that quarter.
