Makes sense. The Howe Bridge will be a better route for folks traveling to Leamington, Chatham, Niagara Falls, Toronto, etc. For those whose ultimate destination is downtown Windsor or adjacent areas to the northeast, it won't be as useful.

Agreed. The Howe was basically built as a bypass for commercial traffic that *isn't* going to Windsor. The Ambassador Bridge and the Tunnel will both be more convenient for local traffic.

The Canadians dis-invited the Americans to the bridge opening, but the first few vehicles across included one that was driven by Mrs. Mallory, and a motorcycle driven by Senator Peters.

Barely 24 hours of the new bridge being open, and some idiot drove his motorcycle right into the "jersey barrier" next to the lane.

I drove the Gordie on Friday. It wasn't very busy at 1pm. Well built, not completely smooth but very impressive.

As for the "human" experience; it took much longer to get through US Customs leaving the US than getting into Canada. Frankly, the agents leaving the US were dicks. Why would they need to do a trunk search as someone is leaving the country? I saw it happen twice in my lane.

The Canadian customs guy was awesome, told me he helped with the engineering and waved me in.

I took the tunnel back, and had zero issues on either side (even with a suitcase of Moosehead).

It's not a new thing - or even a thing at all. You exit I-75 using a Gordie Howe Bridge exit and drive all the way to the Windsor CBSA checkpoint without a single thing stopping you. Toll collection happens after you're released from CBSA.

It's not a new thing - or even a thing at all. You exit I-75 using a Gordie Howe Bridge exit and drive all the way to the Windsor CBSA checkpoint without a single thing stopping you. Toll collection happens after you're released from CBSA.

Tolls and Canadian Customs happen as you described, but East of the word "LaFarge" there is a stop. Left for cars, right for trucks, which don't stop. This may not have been open when you went through, but it's there.
