Re: 29&8 Newsource
Cool find!
I had no idea 29&8 offered a local newscast during the 1980s. This particular newscast evidently was a 5:30PM newscast, with PM Magazine (a nationally syndicated show) airing at 6PM.
Perhaps 7&4 didn't offer a 5:30PM newscast at the time?
The theme music is hideous, and that's putting it mildly. The newscast set actually looks quite decent for the era. The graphics are not great but not bad for the era.

Re: 29&8 Newsource
From what I've been able to 'dig up,' it appears 29&8 had a news department for about two years. Couldn't compete with 7&4 and 9&10.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2026 12:39 pm Cool find!

I believe the 5:30pm slot was chosen as an 'easier' way to possibly grab viewers, rather than compete directly with a well established 6pm news from two other stations. Neither 7&4 or 9&10 had 5:30pm newscast at the time. I think 9&10 started a 5:30 sometime in the early-90s just before 7&4 started "Live at Five" (at some point it became "First at Five" - which is what I remember it being titled).
Oh, came across this about an hour ago. The ending of the very last Newsource 29&8 Newscast July 20, 1984.

Good stuff!
I remember watching "Newsfirst at 5:30" on channel 9 in the early 90s but was unaware what year it launched.

The only 29&8 evening newscast I recall was a reporter hired from 'ZZM to solo anchor. His name escapes me, as does the year; it was also short-lived.
I agree, that final sign-off was pretty good...in a downbeat sort of way.

Maybe in the 70s? I vaguely remember Rita Meloti in the mid-90s. Wasn't Marc Schollet at 29&8 briefly?moldyoldie wrote: ↑Sun Jul 19, 2026 6:11 pm Wow, I don't remember this at all!

I saw a video clip of Rita and someone from the Record Eagle doing news. I'm not sure when it aired though, or how often it was broadcast.moldyoldie wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2026 3:18 am I remember Rita, but that's it. All the names are a blur.
