I wouldn't be surprised if they're holding off on hiring someone until they know how the Nexstar merger will ultimately pan out given current litigation.

Either that, or they didn't get any external applications they liked and *then* decided to hire internal.

You may very well know more about the inner workings of the industry than I do, so you could very well be correct.

But I also wouldn't be surprised if they would have hired a more experienced meteorologist from another station had the right person applied, just because the weather team at 13 is collectively the youngest, and therefore less collectively experienced, in the market.

I doubt they got many outside applicants. I highly doubt anyone right now right now would want to apply at a Tegna station in a market where there is also a NexStar station until the merger is finalized or SCOTUS rejected.

For all we know, Blake could be unemployed in 12 months assuming the merger goes through and operations are streamlined and moved to College Avenue.
