The American Transgender Thread

Post by MotorCityRadioFreak »

It’s been very apparent to me that many people on this board need to understand what’s happening to transgender Americans. I will post news stories here as well as stories from friends, acquaintances, and strangers as I see them. You can decide whether or not you read, but it might actually drive my points home.

We will start with this story out of Indiana:

Posted in MTF Reddit

I am a transgender woman who went to jail in Indiana. This is one of my stories.

Okay, so. I'm gonna share the worst thing that happened to me in jail.

We got shook down in the middle of the night, and I conveyed to a CO that I was transgender and did not want to be strip-searched by a man. They handcuffed me, drug me out of the housing unit while inmates laughed at me. Put me in a cell by myself, ripped my clothes off while hurling slurs at me, screaming anti-trans rhetoric (you have a dick and balls, you're not a woman) and this female CO was saying stuff like "We can't have trans women in women's prisons cuz you'll rape them" The whole time I'm crying my fucking eyes out scared out of my mind, and they're laughing. Laughing. And saying all this shit. The captain - yes, a CAPTAIN - asks me: "What's your name?" I told him my trans name. He says: "Are all gay people this stupid?"

This is Indiana. This is what a red state's jail system is like. Do what you can to change the status quo.

They/them, non-binary and proud.

The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.

Did this person happen to mention why they were in jail? Also, I can't imagine that law enforcement is really that much different regardless of a state's political bent. They are generally people with arrested development, especially if they work in a correctional facility. It sucks that this person went through this, but you shouldn't put every trans person on a pedestal like MAGA does to Trump. Having said that, I encourage you to continue posting stories, perhaps with a more critical eye.

Why is it so important to you that, "many people on this board need to understand what’s happening to transgender Americans"? I honestly think the majority of this board has a great deal of empathy and support for your community, but what do you care what this micro-micro-micro microcosm of individuals think anyway?

I'm interested in any aggression against citizens. Certainly, keeping me updated on this segment would be appreciated.

It shouldn't matter why she was in jail. She deserves humane treatment. I care about my community. We look out for each other as we are 1% of the population. Either you understand or you don't.

If I can get one person here to humanely treat someone in my trans family better, then I have done my job. I can't change the whole world, but I can change a few. And maybe if a few change, then it's a few more trans people who won't kill themselves or there could be a witness to a murder that would otherwise have been silent. We are people too.

Do you plausibly suppose some of us in here don’t treat trans people humanely?

In all my years of seeing them I’ve yet to actually personally see a negative incident involving one and that includes being cramped in a tube with 50 other people for hours on end. I certainly won’t stand for it were it to happen and I’m in a power position to intervene with the bus at least.

I have a number of people I am friends with who identify as non-cis. The one thing I make clear, I respect everyone, but I don't always keep up with the pronouns or identifers.

Life is hard, and we each have our own challenges. I'll always lend a sympathetic ear, but no one should own others challenges.

My primary concern will mostly be for those experiencing homelessness on the street regardless of orientation.

I saw a shirt that said "If you don't respect my trans homies, I'm gonna identify as a fucking problem" and that's how I feel.

Any thought to posting about positive things transgender people are doing or that advocates are doing for trans people?

If only the murderers agreed...While I am glad(no, ecstatic) you left the Trump cult 3-4 years ago, there are many boomers who have not. They still believe the lies and truly support the President's agenda to snuff out all trans people.
