Surprise Endorsement From NPR/WGVU Host

Unread post by GnashManDu »

In a since deleted post it appears that Shelley Irwin may be endorsing newly minted GOP candidate Terri DeBoer.

This was probably a bit of a surprise to her bosses at NPR as the GOP has gleefully defunded public broadcasting such as WGVU. I wonder what Jim Rademaker thinks as he's been sending numerous fundraising letters trying to keep the station afloat?

Would you be offended if Terri was running as a Democrat and she shared it?

WGVU lost any creditability in 1997 or so. Despite GVSU being the dominant school in GR, the station is typically in 3rd place behind WVGR and Blue Lake.

Wouldn't be surprised if GVSU is afraid of not getting anymore DeVos money which I'm 99% sure is funding her campaign.

The stations don't get DeVos money. And the University doesn't have much input on the content.

If you are working as a news person for a public radio station you shouldn’t be endorsing any candidate, shouldn’t attend fund raisers or even the same social gatherings.

My father was a Judge. Based upon him being a Judge he shouldn't have attended political events with my mother?

Judges are politicians.

When I was a journalist, they only political events I attended were for work. And I would never be parading candidates around they way Shelley has. Your father likely didn't stomp for candidates either.

As you know Judges don't run under a political party, so no they are not politicians while sitting on the bench.

Political parties often make abundantly clear which judicial candidates they endorse even though partisan designations are not listed on ballots.

Judicial races can also attract considerable "soft money."

I am unfamiliar with Ms. Irwin. Is she a music daypart host or a news reader at 88.5 / 95.3? It is unclear what she meant by "let's roll." Frankly, I've lost track of 88.5 / 95.3's programming in general. Is it mostly news/talk these days, or do they still feature a lot of Jazz music?

She hosts a daily local interview program mornings on the radio side, and hosts some public affairs shows on the TV side. I thought she was smarter than to endorse candidates of a political party that is actively working to silence her.

Wouldn't surprise me if she knows Terri personally then.

Thanks for the info.

Will DeBoer appear on Rick Albin's "To the Point" program on channel 8 as a guest at some point, I wonder?

Wouldn’t she need a platform? Does anyone know her platform other than “orange jesus good”??
Dropping knowledge on forum MAGAts (where DID they all go??).
