I assume that TV program will still remain available via FanDuel TV+, even once the various Main Street-owned RSNs discontinue operation.

Not necessarily. MLB is by far the most technically advanced professional league in the US, and has been providing technology solutions to the NHL, NBA, and NFL for years. Including streaming, statistical analysis, and much more.

Not necessarily. MLB is by far the most technically advanced professional league in the US, and has been providing technology solutions to the NHL, NBA, and NFL for years. Including streaming, statistical analysis, and much more.

I believe MLB Advanced Media actually took over the NHL's streaming and app about 10 years or so ago. So yeah, it's not that big of a jump.

Audacy and Illitch should work out a deal to simulcast Detroit's 97.1 when they are live/local (and not airing Lions/Pistons PBP) on whatever the new Tigers/Wings TV distribution system will be.

It'd also be nice if this new offering could figure a way to make coverage of Michigan high school sports finals possible again, especially football and boys/girls basketball.

Your second idea is a clever one.

As to your first idea, I'm a little more skeptical. If people were to access 97.1's programming via a video channel, would the station still receive Nielsen PPM credit? Such a close association might also hamper 97.1's ability to critique local teams objectively.

Their live audio stream is encoded for PPM measurement, but I'm unsure how that would work if a video platform were used instead.

It was announced today that Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores and former University of Michigan Fab Five basketball player Jalen Rose are joining together to form a new multi media platform, Same Page Entertainment.

Rose, a Detroit native and University of Michigan Wolverine, and Gores, a Flint native and Michigan State Spartan, founded the company to create content that sparks cross-cultural conversation and deeper appreciation for others at a critical time globally.

Same Page Entertainment will focus on premium storytelling across scripted and unscripted film, television and podcasts, while imploring a "By Detroit, For the World" mentality. At launch, the company will focus on developing projects about the city and state's rich culture, history and legends, while producing content with storytellers and creatives who share the same mission.

My thought is somewhat of a stretch, but is this a preamble to the Pistons starting their own TV network? Same Page certainly sounds like it could create content beyond the games themselves.

After hearing the Tigers and Red Wings are retaining the talent from FanDuel going forward, I wonder about George Blaha. Is this season going to be his swan song?

I think that teams should also sell to local TV stations as well can still make $$$ and the leagues can still have the streaming rights in my opinion. I think all leagues want to own their streaming rights for all teams where it's headed.

I assume so. NBA League Pass (local broadcasts of out of market teams) is available for purchase via cable, sat and streaming providers, so I have little reason to believe that wouldn't hold true here.

Although the specifics are yet to be announced, you can bet on very similar access to what you have now. Including multichannel providers like Xfinity and DirecTV, and virtual multichannel providers like YouTube TV and Fubo.

In addition the same direct-to-consumer streaming will also be available, like it is now.

And as I have speculated here before, it is my considered opinion that a local over-the-air station, like TV20, will have a small number of games too.

Main Street Sports Group files WARN notices in Minneapolis, St. Louis

Layoffs are set to begin on April 14 as FanDuel Sports Network winds down.

The end of Main Street Sports Group is becoming increasingly official.

Federal law requires companies to give employees 60 days’ notice before mass layoffs or a facility closure — it’s called a WARN Act notice, and it’s essentially a paper trail that makes it harder for companies to quietly disappear without warning their workers.

Main Street Sports Group, the parent company of FanDuel Sports Network, just filed one in Minnesota and another in Missouri, notifying both states that it’s closing its Minneapolis office and laying off approximately 20 employees. The layoffs are set to begin April 14 — right around when the NBA and NHL regular seasons wrap up, and the last functional reason for FanDuel Sports Network to keep its lights on will be gone.

In a statement provided in connection with the St. Louis filing, Main Street Sports’ head said: “FanDuel Sports Network is continuing to broadcast NBA and NHL games as we engage in discussions with our partners about our go-forward plans. While final decisions have not been made, we have issued WARN notices to employees, as required by law, regarding potential workforce impacts in the coming months. Any and all aspects of the WARN notices can be revoked at any time. We remain committed to transparency and fair treatment of our employees.”

The affected positions in the Minneapolis closure include account executives, broadcast engineers, editors, producers, managers of media services and operations, programming coordinators, sales associates, senior writers, and traffic directors, essentially the full operational infrastructure of a regional broadcast facility.

The WARN filings are the latest and most concrete sign yet that Main Street Sports Group is winding down. As we’ve covered extensively, the company — successor to Diamond Sports Group, which spent 20 months in Chapter 11 bankruptcy before emerging in November 2024 — has been effectively on death watch since a proposed sale to DAZN collapsed in January. All nine MLB teams under contract with Main Street subsequently terminated their deals, with eight of them — the Brewers, Marlins, Rays, Royals, Cardinals, Reds, Tigers, and Angels — moving their local rights to MLB for the 2026 season, while the Braves are pursuing their own network. Main Street had also been missing payments to teams for months before the DAZN deal fell apart.

What happens to the NBA and NHL teams that are still on the FanDuel Sports Network is the more pressing short-term question. The 13 NBA clubs and seven NHL franchises currently airing on FanDuel Sports Network are at risk of losing their broadcast home mid-season if Main Street moves faster than April. The NBA has been preparing contingency plans, with most of the league’s FanDuel teams expected to eventually join a centralized local streaming package the league is developing. The NHL’s situation is less settled.

For now, the WARN notices set the clearest timeline for when Main Street Sports Group — in all meaningful senses — will be effectively done.
