Watch a little Canadian TV...every commercials talks about how its a "Canadian Thing" or "Proudly made in Canada" or "Made with Canadian beef, cheese, meat, potatoes, etc" One of the offshoots of our countries new Foreign Policy is it has upped the Country pride for our neighbors to the North.

Im convinced mentioning ANYTHING American in Canada is cultural taboo these days. When they boo the National Anthem at hockey games in Canada, while singing their own anthem loud and proud speaks volumes.

Bell hasn't sold advertising on this side of the border for seven or eight years. This is nothing new. Those efforts ended when their Southfield area offices were shuttered.

Even in 2015, they were down to just a handful of remaining advertisers in the U.S. None of the major chain retailers except for maybe Menards were making buys. The stations' share of Detroit market advertising dollars was tiny.

I was last in Windsor two months ago. Windsor still pulls (mostly) for Detroit teams and consumes plenty of Detroit media.

Why are Neeti Ray's stations selling advertising in Detroit? Why is 102.3 essentially based in Dearborn?

Bell won't spend the cash to target Detroit. Plain and simple.

It would be wasted money, in my opinion.

They would have to encode for PPM. They would probably have to open a Detroit area sales office. They would then have to refamilarize themselves with U.S. and Michigan labor and tax regulations. They would have to compete against Audacy, Beasley, iHM, and to a much lesser extent, Cumulus, all of whom are well entrenched. They'd be chasing radio advertising dollars that have been in perpetual decline for nearly two decades.

102.3 primarily sells block airtime. The purchasers of the airtime then sell ads during their own programming blocks. No other FM broadcaster is offering programming to those ethnic groups, so there's very little competition. Much different business model than what any of the mass appeal FM broadcasters are doing.

To Craig's point, I do indeed believe the hostilities that were provoked by Trump is a probable reason why Bell Media decided to dump country in Windsor and why Rogers decided to dump country in the Soo.

The fact both changes occurred in border cities is probably not a coincidence.

CJQM had been playing country music for about four decades, if I'm not mistaken! For them to dump the format and flip to Rock - a format already offered by 101.3 in Soo Michigan - was a stunning move.

Most country musicians are associated with "red" areas of the United States.

It wouldn't surprise me if CJQM and CIMX were anticipating or already experiencing a decrease in ad revenue due to Canadian business owners not wanting to support a country music radio station.

The beauty pageant ratings were not bad for Pure Country 89 in Windsor at the end; they were near a 4 share and outperforming CJWF. I am unsure of AQH share for Persons 25 to 54, though.
