I see that Mojo a/k/a Tom Carballo was given the key to the city recently by Mike Duggan. Over the last few weeks, his voice sounds a bit different. Is he ok?

You're thinking of "The Electrifying Mojo" (Charles Johnson) who i used to listen to on WAAM in Ann Arbor in the 70s before he went to WGPR. This Mojo Tom Carbello is a different guy.

The real Mojo (Charles Johnson) killed it back in the 1980s at WJLB and WHYT. He definitely had the gift of attracting diverse audiences.

No No not the Faux Mojo!

The Electrifying Mojo still lives among us, and is known to be in occasional but rare touch with local DJs and producers, but not breaking the surface to be seen or heard by the public.

Last I heard the "Electrifying Mojo," he was on Monroe/Toledo's Tower 98. The current Mojo does mornings on WKQI "Channel 95.5" Detroit and a couple other stations. Both are entertaining in their own way, but I much prefer the "Electrifying Mojo," (aka Charles Johnson." He was able to get away with some stuff back in the day, like playing the unedited versions of songs, such as "Erotic City." Not to mention his amazing playlist, before the "we play everything" format was a thing.

Speaking of 95.5s Mojo, given the music and content of the show these days, it reminds me of listening to Dick Purtan there in the late 1980s, when he seemed too old for the format.

A guy probably in his mid-50s playing rap and talking about Gen Z content - just sounds weird IMO.

Maybe I'm out of it somewhat, but I think Mojo would fit well on 105.1. CHR these days sucks donkey cock but given the format at 105, I think he'd work well there.

I’m not advocating that he loses his job at all. He’s a great talent. There are plenty of stations targeting higher demos that he’d do a great job at. Look at what Purtan did in 1996 - moved to another position for 14 more years, when he realized that his audience was aging with him.
