89X returns?

Cool FM is just OK. There's actually too much obscure stuf and too much wimpy stuff on that station for my liking. When it first came along, it was a true variety hits station. These days, I'd call it Rock AC with a heavy Canadian artist lean.

I have to say, just scanning that playlist, that is probably the most bizarre radio playlist I've ever seen. Not in a bad way! Seems like a decent station. But I've never quite seen a format like that.

I have buttons set for both 95.1 and 100.7, depending on where I'm driving. CoOL FM is something I can just leave on all day. The Can-Con is great stuff. I use my Panasonic RF-B600 to pick it up here at home. Wish they'd cut back on Bon Jovi and G'NR however

Three cheers for bringing 89X back. It's great' to hear some 2000's classics in there as well. I don't think I've ever heard MGMT or 90's or any Dinosaur Jr on the radio in Detroit before. Not since 1994 atleast.

Also great to hear solo Jack White on the air in Detroit! Shocker! Hardly hear a hometown hero besides seven nation on the air and yet hundreds of stations around the US play White Stripes and Jack White on regular rotation. Even heard Rancid tonight and Tegan and Sara. Go CanCon. Still waiting for Sloan!

I'm sure that was just opening weekend and the past few days and the honeymoon will soon be over, but hopefully they veer more towards the classic alternative punk versus the nu-emo/alt metal side of the spectrum.

Great to hear Archbiship! Mazzy Star and Paper Planes MIA this morning but yeah its mainly hovering back to Linkin Park and Incubus which is what will probably happen when they bring on a morning show and afternoon on air programming. Hopefully they'll find a happy medium that doesn't have to rely heavily on Nu Metal Emo Alt Rap!

You and I both know that their only version of this is going to be playing “Southside” by Moby or “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People. Maybe Daft Punk or Avicii if we’re lucky. It’s not like they are going to play “Children”, the Chemical Brothers, Kraftwerk, Crystal Method, or Paul Oakenfold.

I agree with you 100% on 95.1. Live just south of Port Huron, and 106.3 out of Sarnia is very similar to 95.1. I've actually heard good Canadian songs from the 70's for the very first time recently, simply because none of the Detroit stations ever played them.

So, there I was jamming out to "Doesn't Remind Me" by Audioslave Friday morning on 89x. It was really the only Audioslave song I liked.

And then it dawned on me. I could never figure out why so many were against Sammy Hagar in Van Halen. I dug Soundgarden and loved Rage Against the Machine. On paper, it looked really good. But the product was underwhelming. It was just two different worlds that didn't fit together. Same with Chester Bennington in STP. So I get it now.

Um, I've actually seen them in concert and own most of their stuff, including Sénior Coconut.

People forget what stations like 89x were prior to Nirvana. Even as late as 1993, groups like the Cure and Depeche Mode were still getting airplay.

Which song from Kraftwerk? The only album that got any airplay dropped in 1977. 89X wouldn't have played Talking Heads from '77.
