Local 4 buyout packages
Local 4 buyout packages
Hearing on the street, WDIV has offered incredible buyout packages to employees with 25 years service and are 55 and over. 18 months pay plus extended benefit packages including a year of health insurance. A lot of familiar talent and key below the line people are taking it, deadline I hear is Friday.

The bill for the new set must have been higher than estimated.

Re: Local 4 buyout packages
Hopefully they don't have sticker shock when that runs out. Half way decent insurance will run $700 to over $1000 a month at that age (Over 55)
Not sure what the job market would be in that industry at that age. I'm guessing not good.

Re: Local 4 buyout packages
Right, I would not call that a great buyout package. Many probably keep working due to health insurance being so costly, and Medicare does not always pay much. Plus, a person needs to be a certain age before they can get that. If a person is past social security age plus they have a large nest egg, they probably leave.craig11152 wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2024 1:02 pmHopefully they don't have sticker shock when that runs out. Re: Local 4 buyout packages
The decision to take the buyout is a very personal one, it depends on a multiple of factors that include how close to 65 you are if not over, what any other job prospects you might have, how much time is left on your contract and would you be renewed if you stayed, how much do you have in your personal retirement accounts and finally how much fun you are still having at your job. For many the decision is an easy one, almost a no-brainer and for others it is a difficult one.
Either way ch 4 will look very different in a month.

Re: Local 4 buyout packages
Who’s 55 or older over there now on-air?
Top of my head guesses:
Devin Scillian
Bernie
Paula Tutman
Rod Maloni
Tim Pamplin
Mara McDonald (?) If I did the math right she’s in the ballpark.
Karen Drew is 52 or so. Did I miss anybody?

If it's only over 25 years of service, that narrows down to:
Devin Scillian 29 years
Bernie Smilovitz 38 years? But that includes when he left for NYC. May be closer to 28?
Paula Tutman 32 years
Rod Maloni 29 years
Tim Pamplin 25 years

Go soak your head if you can find a square bucket. Drew in a sleeveless top is Must See TV for me.Michiganviewer wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 7:47 am Hope to see Karen Drew bought out. Might watch channel 4 again.

Pretty harsh--she visited my place of employment earlier this year. I didn't speak to her directly, but she was treating everyone else like they were the celebrity. She was so nice it kind of blew my mind. So yeah, no need to rag on her.Round Six wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 8:57 amGo soak your head if you can find a square bucket. Re: Local 4 buyout packages
Two new developments to the story, Devin is not taking the buyout.
And 4 poached Jessica Dupnack from Fox 2. Clearly Local 4 is clearing cap-space and trying to get younger and cheaper because they will be attempting to fill most of the positions with new talent above and below the line. Will WDIV ignore her non-compete that the FTC said was invalid and put her on the air ASAP or will they keep her on ice until the term is over? The fact they were willing to offer Jessica more money than JBK was willing to counter is also telling.

Re: Local 4 buyout packages
Interesting… so even with adding her at enough that JBK wouldn’t match it plus the new cheaper folks they’ll come out ahead financially shedding whatever talent took the plunge…Editorcj wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 8:20 pm Two new developments to the story, Devin is not taking the buyout.

How good of a fit is she with their style though?
