Trouble at CBS News Detroit
Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
Whitebalance: that was the reason management used to fire him. There was many more heated discussions about his poor job performance and his diva ego not wanting to work with other staff, not wanting to cover certain stories, that made his firing very easy.
Look, if adding Turner to the flaming pile of dog poo that is CBS Detroit’s local newscasts actually would improve the station, I’d say go for it. But I don’t think that is the reason 62 is doomed to be a far distanced fourth place station. Just look at the unwatchable production by “talent” who wouldn’t make it in much smaller markets.
This has been a disaster from the beginning… and the corporate execs who put this local management team in place with a baffling news and marketing brand and positioning should be on the same unemployment line as Frank Turner.

Huel Perkins or Murray Feldman would probably be better hires than Frank Turner.
62's production values are fine. Most of the on-air anchors and reporters (who seem fewer in number than what the station promised) are good.
The lack of an investigative reporting unit, lack of a consumer advocacy reporting unit, mixed performance at covering breaking live news with reporters on the scene, and non-existent sports department are the shortcomings.

DTE Energy paid $752 million in dividends to its shareholders last fiscal year. Remember that the next time they ask the MPSC to approve rate hikes.

Frank was awful to work with after he traded cocaine and porn for Jesus and religion.
Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
Did he have the habit of talking about it non-stop like a lot of born again folks? It’s almost like they are hypnotized.
Donald Trump… In your guts you know he’s nuts.

Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
What pathetic coverage of last night's Rose Bowl win by the Wolverines by channel 62 on today's 12PM newscast.
ZERO video highlights on the Noon show today, just a handful of still photographs from last night's action.
Other stations sent people to Pasadena to file reports...sometimes live reports. Brad Galli interviewed players immediately after the game. Even WOOD TV in Grand Rapids sent its weekend sports anchor to Pasadena to file reports!
Was reporting on last night's 11PM newscast similarly lax?

The wheels might be coming off their news organization. While reporting on that house explosion this evening they said " deceased, 3 in hospital", whereas the story should have been updated YESTERDAY, that a fourth person had passed away (one of the 3 in the hospital). This was also covered in the Sheriff's announcement today. Shame on CBS62 for not broadcasting the correct info.
One of the survivors is the dad, who owned the house. The dad's daughter is one of the deceased and her husband, son, and daughter, are the other three deceased. Her 16 year old son is the other survivor.

If you want a real newscast, maybe CBS should hire a journalist as News Director. It’s clear Paul
is more concerned about style over substance. There are far too many basic issues that never seem to improve. I think he’s also surrounded himself with some people that give him bad advice and that’s lead to an unwatchable newscast. If things don’t start improving, CBS will have to make some big changes.

Should I share the ranks from a month ago again that shows the situation is the opposite of what you say?
The beliefs of many on this board does not match the current viewership as within a year there is direct competition for third against a legacy station. Must be doing something right.

Wasn’t that for one or two days?OnTopic wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 6:18 pmShould I share the ranks from a month ago again that shows the situation is the opposite of what you say?

Re: Trouble at CBS News Detroit
CBS Detroit is a distant 4th place news operation. Regardless of even a short term demo increase, viewership is not competitive daily against the three other legacy stations in the market. CBS’s newscasts look and feel small market. And while I don’t have budget P&L (profit-loss) numbers, that is likely what CBS will point to when it decides to make wholesale changes. It can go a little time in the red, but this is still a business. Without a more competitive ratings picture, there will be little revenue growth to support the significant investment and monthly operating budget.
