Re: WJR, boring programming
In the ratings, from an earlier thread,
WWJ is #9
WJR is #16
People simply get their news-talk-traffic-weather elsewhere.
And those MSU or UM sponsored informercial hour are truly bottom of the barrel in terms of compelling reason to listen.
Same thing for Beaumont or Henry Ford health systems infomercial hours.
AM radio is on the endangered list. We saw this play out in the attempt to remove AM from car radios. I am in the demographic and am still hanging on, but the next generation is not waking up to Guy Gordon on WJR, or Mitch Albom and Kenny in drive time.

Poor Curly, he'll probably develop an eating disorder, and need to be treated for depression, after enduring your sophomoric, satirical wit.
Oh, and P.S, from your own rambling posts, you're the one who lives near Andrew Z, not Curly.
By the way, I'm not Fred.

Re: WJR, boring programming
I think Mitch and Kenny are the only ones with any real meaningful "share" at this point. Guy Gordon is boring, and his new female co-host (also from TV) is boring. Funny thing, she seems to come to life when paired up with Steve Courtney.radiofann wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 3:49 amIn the ratings, from an earlier thread,

now now, a whopping 5 percent of my posts were in the Party 103.3 bash thread. He was right to call me on that. I'm practically as bad as the Ron Cameron groupies, or the guy who was creating 30 threads a week about Eric Chase and Q105. lolColonel Flagg wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 1:29 pm"Hmmm?"Foamy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 11:21 pmESPN Deportes ended a few years ago.CurlyHoward wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 10:59 pmNo, they're not. Re: WJR, boring programming
If Mitch is drawing the best numbers, you know you're in trouble. His show is beyond awful, even worse than Guy Gordon's snoozer and Paul W. sucking up to CEOs.

WJR is a cash cow for Cumulus. That would have to be a helluva offer.Deleted User 16144 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 9:00 pmI just wonder how long Cumulus will hang on to WJR before the for sale sign goes up on the front lawn. Both WDVD and WJR could possibly go for at least 13 million. Family Life paid 10 million for WDRQ.
Who's gonna make it?
Audicy is broke.

Beasley? Long shot.

I'll buy it. Block programming. Everyone on the buzzboard gets a show.
Except Bryce. We can just run David Duke interviews.

Re: WJR, boring programming
I listen to Renwick everyday from 2:00-4:00 and I think his show is the best on the station. Each day at 4:00, I keep listening. If Mitch is hosting, I listen for a few minutes and usually change it. If Steve Courtney is subbing in, I will usually listen to the whole show. The guy is hilarious, and likes making fun of himself. But yes, most of the rest of the shows are a hard listen.
Re: WJR, boring programming
Help me understand How is a #16 rated station a ‘cash cow’.
Many of the commercials are PSAs. Large Portions of airtime are sold off as infomercials (startup nation, retirement hour, healthline)
Do they make money from syndicated stuff like red eye guys or mark levin?
Many of the programs are aimed at older listeners to make them feel comfortable reminiscing for the old legacy days of JP, Limbaugh and Beckman.
Gone are the days of the 70s 80s where AM radio, was the powerhouse of info and talk and even music, and WJR was #1.
Paul W needs to retire, renwick might be a bright spot to build on. Shapiro and Matt Walsh are listenable.
Will everything move to FM and-or eventually to,podcasts?

Re: WJR, boring programming
WJR is sold on emotion, not ratings. As you yourself said, older listeners reminiscing. Older reminiscing advertisers who've been buying Paul W. etc. for years keep them in business.
Sports probably brings in the most coin though.
Maybe Mark could provide some revenue numbers.
