My favorite one to tell a true Michigander from a pretender.
How about "Hamtramck"?

No. Mackinaw/Mackinac is the true test.
Both are also good tests!

Several years ago, Dave Leval was anchoring the morning news on 25. He was reading the intro to a story about Mackinac Island and he pronounced it Mack-in-ack. During the story, we get in his ear to remind him of the proper pronunciation. When we come out on cam for the tag, he sure as shit said Mack-in-ack AGAIN! Some people just don’t care.

Watch out Herm… or fake outrage Matt will remind you that Dave Leval lack of caring about how to pronounce one of Michigan’s most popular tourist destinations got him to a BIGGER MARKET!

The fact is — if you’re going to be on air — you need to care about these details. It adds (or takes away) your credibility.

I highly doubt the buffoons inability to pronounce Mackinac correctly is what got him out of Flint/Saginaw.

I'll be fair. I've lived here my whole life and still struggle with Lahser.

I mentioned once in another thread I remember Mark Watkins at 7&4 learning correct pronunciation during the commercial breaks his first week. He'd do the initial forecast, butcher two or three towns, then apologize after the break.
