Anyone Have a Chevy Equinox?
Re: Anyone Have a Chevy Equinox?
If you’re buying an used Equinox, look at the VIN. If it starts 3, avoid it as it’s made in Mexico. If it starts with 2, it’s made in Canada.
Former co worker had 2 Equinox’s. Said the first one had given him trouble (it was a 2015 model year or so). He was going to buy a new Toyota RAV4 but got great deal on a new 2020. Started having issues with it (transmission) in less than a month and while driving to FLA. I looked at the VIN - made in Mexico. SMH.

Avoid the current generation Escape like the plague!!! The 1.5 liter (or litre), three cylinder engine is garbage. Two newer vehicles in my neighborhood have that engine and sound terrible.
Zzand is right about the transmission, too. Ford puts lousy transmissions in many of its vehicles these days.
Although I dislike the interior, the Canadian-built Ford Edge is a decent vehicle. I think 2023 is its final production year. I'd advise the SEL trim. Avoid the ST trim, whose ride is overly firm. Not a fan of the ST's dual-clutch transmission, either (it's sloppy in lower gears).
If your 2020 Equinox is coming off lease, Turkeytop, the smartest move might be to simply purchase it. It's very possible the lease buyout is cheaper than even the vehicle's trade-in value.

It isn't leased. I own it. And I'm planning to keep it a couple more years. I usually keep a vehicle for four years. But this one had a year of almost no driving due to covid. So, Ill probably hang on to it for five years.
I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in 1 day and the box said 2-4 years.

Re: Anyone Have a Chevy Equinox?
I think you are likely making a wise move in keeping it for a while.
I've read very few issues affecting that model year; the incidents seem to be isolated. That model year is regarded as being highly reliable, which is great news.
If I remember correctly, the Equinox has little to zero undercarriage cladding, so at some point, rock salt from the roads may begin to eat away at some things in problematic fashion, but that usually does not occur until the car gets "up there" in miles driven. If you spend most of the winter in Florida, then that should be a non-issue anyway for you.

This car spends its winters in Florida. So it has very little exposure to salt.

I think Ford JUST recalled like 600,000 of them (year 2020-2023 models) for being a fire hazard.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 8:59 amAvoid the current generation Escape like the plague!!! This is also a great resource, especially for looking at specific model years:

Looks like Chevy has ironed out most of the problems that plagued earlier models. The 2017 in particular scores well as do anything 2020 and beyond.
My personal experience with Chevy has been good. I purchased a 2001 S-10-style Blazer in 2011. Had 117,000 miles on it. It was my daily vehicle until just a few weeks ago when it finally succumbed to rust. Went to the scrap yard with 204,000 miles on it. I love the S-10's and Blazers from the mid 1990s through mid 2000s.

Yup; they sure did.I think Ford JUST recalled like 600,000 of them (year 2020-2023 models) for being a fire hazard.
I'd also advise anyone to stay away from the Bronco Sport like the plague.

Re: Anyone Have a Chevy Equinox?
I did test drive the Escape a few years back. As someone who owned Escapes in the past, I was very, very, very disappointed.
Re: Anyone Have a Chevy Equinox?
I have a 2011 Escape... one of the old Mazda based square ones (the refreshed version)... 262,000 miles and the thing still runs like a top.
Re: Anyone Have a Chevy Equinox?
A neighbour is a retired Ford worker. He says those old Escapes were the best.

Re: Anyone Have a Chevy Equinox?
Its like when they got away from being sorta boxy they started to suck. If I could go back, I would have kept my black one, I probably would still be trucking around in it. I really miss those cars

My neighbor bought one used a couple years ago; the body looks immaculate and the car is quiet as can be.
A friend also has owned one for years. He drives 30 miles each way to work, has about 200,000 miles on his car, has spent virtually nothing on repairs, and claims the car burns no oil at all.

Re: Anyone Have a Chevy Equinox?
My dad drives a black 2008 Escape. Currently over 250,000 miles on it and still drives like a top.

At 250 K. Amazing
