Going 4 it: The inside story of the rise of WDIV
Re: Going 4 it: The inside story of the rise of WDIV
Was about to post this . Anyhow, I’m very interested to seeing how Channel 4 went from first in the 1950s and 1960s, to dead last by the 1970s. Heard Channel 4 was a dud by the late 1960s. The fact that no one remembers anyone of value from 1967 to 1978 speaks volumes. I already know how Channel 4 rose again in the 1970s. Can’t wait to see this.

I suspect it was due to NBC's prime-time ratings lagging behind CBS for most of that time.CircleWXYZ wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 2:15 pmI’m very interested to seeing how Channel 4 went from first in the 1950s and 1960s, to dead last by the 1970s. In our house during those years, the local news of choice was always Channel 4. We couldn't stand the ego and bombast of Bill Bonds, so 7 was never an option. I just wanted information without opinion or emotion. The first anchorman I remember from those years of watching 4 was Dean Miller, the old actor who got out of Hollywood in the early '60s. He went into broadcasting when he bought a radio station in northwest Ohio, I think. Later on, for the 6 o'clock news we'd go for Joe Glover and Bev Payne on 2, then our choice at 11:00 pm was Mort Crim on 4.

Who was the voiceover talent heard at 2:57? I remember hearing that voice regularly on WDIV through the 80's.

It might be Ted Anthony.

Are there any plans to broadcast the Dateline episode preempted for this local special?

Wdiv is very high on themself. They are a non player in news. The average person does not watch local news

I enjoyed it as well. Learned quite a bit.
