Re: Ron Cameron
I won't argue about Ron's show getting "a little moldy after a few days," but some of his broadcasts are timeless. If possible, try to find the podcast of Ron doing a remote show from Louie's Pizza in early 2020. (His last WDTK appearance before leaving for WPON.) A classic example of unintentional hilarity.
Re: Ron Cameron
Let me correct myself and agree: Ron has absolutely perfected the balance of being timeless, while being firmly stuck in neutral.ShempLives wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 1:15 pm I won't argue about Ron's show getting "a little moldy after a few days," but some of his broadcasts are timeless. Re: Ron Cameron
If only we could re-live the memorably heated exchanges between Ron & Martin. “You only have 7 callers!” “Get out!” I think the occasionally cross words Ron had for Matt, who never seemed to understand his place in Ron’s world, are gone, too. All lost to history (with the exception of our memories). Just like Ron’s interview of Jacqueline Kennedy.ShempLives wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 1:15 pm If possible, try to find the podcast of Ron doing a remote show from Louie's Pizza in early 2020. (I found this by clicking Follow podcast, then RSS Feed in Ron's podcast area on WDTK).
Early in the show, Ron articulates his basic philosophy of life:
"If it's not bad, it must be good!"
Re: Ron Cameron
Thanks. Without footnotes, it would be hard to believe the crazy path his career has taken.ShempLives wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 12:17 pm Kudos to the effort involved in creating the Wikipedia entry on Ron. Concise and non-judgmental, this is just what a broadcast historian would want and need with the amply documented footnotes.

That was Ron's last show before the pandemic.Bobbert wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 5:31 pm Is this it?

Hearing John McCulloch’s voice in the commercial lead-in again makes me wonder still if Ron ever followed-through on his repeated assurances that he was going to call his widow to express his condolences.
Ron trying to be heard over a birthday celebration. And as always making it about himself & HIS upcoming birthday.
I miss Luke, both as Ron’s producer & as a Board poster:
Ron: "See, I can’t look at this & tell whether we’re on the air or not. We're not on the air?
Luke: “You’re on the air!”
Ron: "Oh, don't have to be so sarcastic about it. ... What are you doing to me, Luke?”
Luke: “Keeping you on the air.”
Ron: ".Oh Oh Oh Oh, that's a low blow there, baby. Whaddya doing to all my callers? Give me the callers, would you?"
Luke: "You got none on the line right now."
Ron: "Oh, yeah, you're a big help ... probably hanging up on 'em (laughter)."
Luke: "Maybe."
Ron pushing back on on the January 4th new year’s greeting from (the now-missing) Super Rasiday (sp) as if it was too late on the calendar to express such a sentiment. I remember overhearing one woman extending new year's greetings to another woman the first week of March! Now THAT was late.

Re: Ron Cameron
Thanks Bobbert! I love how Ron left it at the very end of the show that he won't be on next week. So that means he won't be back on the air until 1/2/22. In the meantime as Ron would say, " a lot to talk about, a lot going on in the sportsworld". He sure is missing the boat the next couple weeks. Oh well. Ron never seems to be any kind of a fan of goodbyes or introductions. I do not believe any upcoming guests were hyped up because we know he can't think that far in advance. Will he lead with 3 hours of Alex in 2022?Bobbert wrote: ↑Mon Dec 20, 2021 3:03 pmThanks for the clarification. I'll go back through my source material and see what I can do. He had some credibility at that time because of the Schembechler prediction. Also, Joe Falls took Cameron's prediction seriously.Mr.Transistor wrote: ↑Mon Dec 20, 2021 1:35 pm Very impressive Bobbert. I do take issue with this statement and I'm sure Ron would as well. "But in 1990, he incorrectly reported that the Detroit Tigers would move its playing location from Detroit to suburban Dearborn"
In fact, Ron was correct that the Tigers did indeed have the wheels in motion for a move to that area of land on Ford Rd. in Dearborn. When this became public, thanks to Ron, the city of Dearborn got so much flack from their residents that the city nixed any kind of a deal and it never materialized.

Re: Ron Cameron
Bobbert, yes the January 4, 2020 broadcast is the "classic example of unintentional hilarity" I was referring to. Note that he started the live, remote show by misstating the name of the pizzeria!
Re: Ron Cameron
I listened to the first hour again. It was a lot of fun. Part of the fun of listening to Ron's show is seeing how he tries to navigate through the chaotic world that he has created for himself. The background noise of a bar is the perfect soundtrack for his show.ShempLives wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 1:18 am Bobbert, yes the January 4, 2020 broadcast is the "classic example of unintentional hilarity" I was referring to. It's also interesting listening to older shows, after a certain amount of time has passed. You immediately know how right or wrong everybody was in their comments. And it was so nice to not hear COVID-19 mentioned.
Re: Ron Cameron
The podcast of last Sunday’s SportsTalk was posted, but it was some unidentifiable 10 & 15 minutes chunks of non-Ron Cameron programming. Not sure if some lines got crossed in the “War Room” at The Patriot.

Just checked Amazon Music. Apparently they're offering the same incorrect podcasts under Ron's name as well. I don't think we can blame Ron for this faux pas.

Re: Ron Cameron
Ol' Ron Cameron
(Good King Wenceslas)
Ol' Ron Cameron hosts a show,
On a Sunday evening,
Telling stories on the air,
Some not worth believing.
He must fill three hours of time,
With ads, guests, and callers,
When producers aren't perfect,
Ron begins to holler.
**************************
Cowboy calls from Canada,
Spouting all his trivia,
If it makes you turn the dial,
We will all forgive yuh.
Every little thing in life,
Is not always history,
Why Cowboy persists in this,
Truly is a mystery.
**************************
Kurt from Fraser says, "Hi Ron,
Let's talk about baseball."
Even though it's ten below,
And snow's starting to fall.
Kurt has this compulsive need,
To never stop talking,
When Ron says it's time to go,
Kurt continues squawking.
**************************
Mark from Warren always asks,
When restaurant will open,
He thinks Ron's in full control,
But Ron's only hopin',
For someone foolish enough,
To sell at a big loss,
And for naive employees,
Who will have Ron as their boss.
**************************
Denny likes to call up Ron,
And talk about card shows,
And drop names of baseball folks,
Whom he claims that he knows.
Ron helped Denny make it back,
From a life of hard crime,
Denny shows his gratitude,
By not showing up on time.
**************************
Mr. Positive calls in,
Bursting with a real zeal,
Saying words of hope and joy,
Telling us what he feels.
Heard he's in the hospital,
Let's hope he gets well soon,
And returns to our airwaves,
Singing out his special tune.
**************************
Let us end this Yuletide spoof,
With some words of good cheer,
Sure we make fun of Ron's show,
But Sunday we are all ears.
Therefore, sporting men, be sure,
You can count on one thing,
Ye, who do not call the show,
Still partake by listening.
