Re: two heartbreaking stories
This posting may be incorrect. Robin sadly did pass away. Tom Ryan, the CKLW engineer, not Dick Purtan sidekick, died. There was a Johnny Williams DJ from somewhere other than Detroit, who died. I’ll try to track down more information on him.

From The Big 8 CKLW FB page:
It is with great sadness that I announce our dear friend Johnny Williams (Thomas DeAngelo) has passed away from the effects of the covid19 virus. His family has now made the news public this evening. Johnny will be cremated and a memorial will be announced in upcoming days. We lost Johnny Thursday late afternoon to this dangerous and fast moving virus.
Johnny was from Allen Park and came to the Big 8 at the height of the station's popularity in 1968 and stayed for close to 15 years. .He was the man who replaced Alan Almond on the Pillow Talk Show on WNIC then took the show to other markets like Chicago with early forms to tape syndication. Johnny also was one of the first wave of DJs at the new Sirius Satellite Radio in the 90's.
Johnny also was involved with managing local band Tim Tam and The Turn-On in the 60's and was a H*** supporter of his son's band The Phoenix Theory!

Re: two heartbreaking stories
When I first hired in to do afternoons at WNIC in ‘88, Johnny followed me on Pillowtalk. A gentleman and true professional in every sense of the word. He would come into the studio early and would pull enough music for 3 shows and we’d shoot the breeze the whole time. I’d pick his brain about the Big 8 and needless to say, it was humbling to work with a guy I had listened to in Cleveland! Happy trails Johnny.

Re: two heartbreaking stories
Reading some Clev radio board posts, Johnny Williams also worked at Q104 in Clev. in the 90's I believe.
