Re: November 2019 TV News Ratings
As others have noticed on here, I'm kind of a broken record saying that the younger and "easier on the eyes" the folks in front of the camera are, the more people are going to watch.
Now am I higher than the cost of living, thinking that this latest rating chart proves me right?

No. Devin Scillian is one of the oldest anchors and he’s still number one. Oh wait—you’re referring to the women. Of course you are. Jerk.

Re: November 2019 TV News Ratings
Wow - Fox 2's numbers (at least in total HH) are in the toilet!
That's the closest finish in the 6a to 7a timelsot in probably 15 years. Fox 2 used to dominate the 4PM timeslot and used to put up a valiant showing at 5PM; not anymore! Fox 2's 6PM newscast's numbers are downright lousy, while the 10PM numbers are underperforming historical norms.
The biggest surprise might be the margin of WDIV's lead at 5PM.

Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.
Re: November 2019 TV News Ratings
Can we agree the #1 goal of a local newscast is to get as many people as possible to watch?
So, and I'm honestly going extreme here to make a point:
Let's say one of the stations decides to have no one over the age of 30 in front of the camera. All the ladies have ample bosoms and impressive cleavage. The finest bubble butts. Their dresses are form fitting.
All the guys look and dress like the dude on the cover of a romance novel.
(and not one viewer ever has cared how small the market they come from is, seriously).
Bear with me, I admit I got a little silly, and I'm confident no station would actually do this, but I want to make a serious point.
In the above example, would people watch?
Set aside what you perceive as a sexist theme in my post, and think about it for about a minute, and then honestly answer yes or no: Would it be the most watched newscast in Detroit?
I know myself and others get called jerks and pigs and what not for talking this sort of thing.
I honestly don't believe I'm being a jerk. I honestly believe I'm being pragmatic.
Read and reflect on the first sentence of my reply to you a for a bit before you put forth a rebuttal.
What is the business model of TV news?

Re: November 2019 TV News Ratings
It's not just looks, but looks certainly count. It's a visual medium and you can't have something that noticeably distracts from the content. I think if you have females actively flaunting cleavage you'll lose the female market and if you have 'pretty boys' the male audience is going elsewhere. The content needs to be reasonably assembled such that I'm not asking myself why I just sat through that story or left with plenty of questions because the story wasn't researched or reported very well.Mike Oxlong wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 8:18 pmCan we agree the #1 goal of a local newscast is to get as many people as possible to watch?

Also, just going with "no one over the age 30" also alienates more than half your viewing audience, because those folks know plenty of folks under 30 who don't have a clue what they are talking about.
