Classic Rock has no limit to song count; that is placed upon it by the programming entity. Although, I would agree with AOR.
Acceptable registrations in the queue through June 3 at 5:00p ET have now been activated. Enjoy! -M.W.

Re: Grayling Rocker
Yes that is correct, BUT there is no limit to song count in a genre or format. WWO may have a 700 song rotation and Cumulus may have an 800 song count, but that doesn’t affect what they choose from, only what they choose. Both are still classic rock, just different programmers.
What music is played defines the format, not how many songs are played.
Re: Grayling Rocker
Additionally, classic rock is generally defined based on which chart a song lands,

As someone who helped flip the second Classic Rock station in the US, I disagree with your assessment.

Re: Grayling Rocker
Bob,
Who's definition? Everyone has an opinion, but some are useless. Give WCSX or Jacobs Communications a call and try arguing your point. Otherwise, Classic Rock is a tightly managed list of songs that charted 17 years or longer ago (with some exceptions). But perhaps you folks out on the Thumb know better...

TC -
I listened to Bob’s station online yesterday for the first time in a while (I can pick them up OTA somewhat depending on weather conditions). Heard Tonic’s “Open up your eyes” being played. Haven’t heard that song in a long time but it’s 15+ years old. I like that oh wow factor like that - something that went away after Sirius took over my choice of XM

Re: Grayling Rocker
Are you sure Tantric has a song with that title? There was an obscure post-grunge band from the mid or late 90's with a song by that title (KLQ used to play it), but I never remember Tantric having a single with that title.
Getting back to WIDL - if its intended audience enjoys the station, that's all that matters at the end of the day.
WCSX's song age is "old" by current day Classic Rock standards, *but* that strategy works EXTREMELY well for them.
Unpredictable stations like WIDL, M-106.3 in Greenville and Sunny 97.3 in Big Rapids are what make small town radio great!

You’re right - just did further digging - it’s by the band Tonic. Memory is the second thing to goMWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 7:23 pmAre you sure Tantric has a song with that title? Tonic!! That's indeed who it is!
Was going nuts trying to remember who sang that song.
"If You Could Only See" was Tonic's big hit. Still hear that one on Sirius XM regularly. I think 93.9 The River plays that tune on occasion, too. Ditto 107.1 in Ann Arbor.

Consultants are generally why terrestrial radio sucks so bad in general. Consultants suck the life out of any format they touch. There are a few good ones, but there are TONS of crappy ones out there. Most consultants would disagree. Tightly tested libraries are the only way to go...

THIS! And I, for one, cannot wait until there are MORE locally-owned and programmed stations to listen to. I'm beyond sick of hearing the same couple hundred songs over and over and over. Sure, working on-air helped burn them out even worse that a normal man, but ALL my "non-radio infected" friends complain that stations sound stale because they hear the same songs endlessly. All the polish in the world doesn't make up for the fact listeners are sick of your station's music and hit the button often. That's the way *I* see it anyways.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 7:23 pmGetting back to WIDL - if its intended audience enjoys the station, that's all that matters at the end of the day.

Not so fast... I have several Tonic singles that had decent airplay. "Casual Affair", "You Wanted More", and "Knock Down Walls" all had pretty good Rock airplay. "Mean to Me" got played for a while, but I don't recall it charting in the US.1027BrianFM wrote: ↑Sat Dec 08, 2018 10:34 pmThat and Open up your eyes. 2 hit wonder, then they faded into obscurity
