Re: Pirate Radio in the 90’s
I find this topic very interesting. I hope a lot of people chime in. When was the last time there was a pirate station in the area? There was one in Toledo about a year or so ago that was talked about on this board.

I'm hard pressed to remember any of pirate stations but I'm interested in hearing more about them.

Re: Pirate Radio in the 90’s
Back in the late 60's or early 70's I have vague recollections of a pirate station on the AM dial near 1460. The best known one was Radio New York International at 1610 AM. I heard that station many times in Michigan.

Re: Pirate Radio in the 90’s
There was a pirate in the late 90s in Howell with the call sign WFLR. They operated for almost 2 years before WHMI then owner Greg Jablonski ratted them out to the FCC. From what I can recall, Jablonski actually heard the broadcast when visiting a downtown store. They were pretty brazen and even had bumper stickers printed up.
Please look at my signature.

Re: Pirate Radio in the 90’s
Grand Rapids had some. The biggest signal had to be the Spanish Religious station on 104.9 that was on for a few years. Wonder if it's somehow related to one of two Spanish Religious LPFMs that have come on in the last couple of years

Believe it or not I do recall another pirate at 87.9 that was Down River Detroit still in the City limits around Zug Island that was Contemporary Christian and that was around 2007 just before I retired.

There was a 97.7 in Adrian that got out well. Here is one link I found about it (there are more to be found): http://www.cnn.com/US/9612/16/rebel.preacher/index.html
