Most urban freeways were not designed for 75 - too many ingress and egress points.

Its too bad there's no practical way to have a higher speed limit in the left-most lane of interstate. Basically a high-speed lane.
I'd say 75 in the left lane, 65 in all other lanes. The problem is switching lanes and changing speeds during the switch.
Otherwise if it were up to me I'd have a 65 MPH speed limit on interstate with a strict enforcement at 10 over being speeding (at 75 MPH)

That seems to be theme I don't understand. If tickets don't start till 75MPH why not just set it 75 and enforce at 75? In the state of PA, the local and county can not ticket unless you 11 or more over.

I called my Congressman and Senator to discuss the impact that this would have on all of us. In MI, 80 means 85. I told him that if they're so hell bent on more speed, then do 75 and enforce it hard. Do 80 and its 2 points and a lot of bucks....

I think it may be prudent to study certain areas of highway that 80/85 could be acceptable. For example, there are stretches of I-75 between Standish and West Branch and then again after West Branch to the bridge where it might make sense. That same could be said for parts of I-94 and I-96.
I would be vehemently against raising the limit in high traffic, dense population areas.
Germany does this with great success. Of course, German drivers are better as a whole that what we have in the metro Detroit area.

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

I believe driving 75-80mph would be safe. Most drivers already do that. However, when there is an accident I think the severity will be greatly increased. Further, the gas consumption would go up with the higher speeds. There are definitely pros and cons to this. If the limits were to be increased, I'd still keep the lower speeds through cities like Grand Rapids on US-131 and Flint on I-69 for example. I think increasing the speed limits for non-insterstates like M-routes and US routes from 55 to 65mph would be doable. Would love to see a higher speed on US-2 and M-28 in the UP.
