Clueless Kim Adams doesn't understand lake effect cloud cover
She's forecasting mostly sunny skies area wide after some morning fog burns off.
Never mind the fact low level moisture coupled with a stubborn NNE flow off Lake Huron has been producing a stubborn low level stratus deck across the east side, which will likely expand westward as surface temps warm (just as it did yesterday). There should be more gaps in the clouds this afternoon than yesterday away from the water, but I'd be very surprised if mostly sunny conditions are predominant across the heart of the Metro and especially east side. I think mostly cloudy skies will be the rule east of Telegraph Rd.

NWS seems to be splitting the difference from what I can see:MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 6:35 amShe's forecasting mostly sunny skies area wide after some morning fog burns off.

A ridge of high pressure will bring dry weather today into the first
part of Monday. That said, north to northeast flow off of Lake Huron
will maintain a feed of low level moisture and complicate clearing
trends to some extent again today. Nighttime Satellite imagery from
GOES-16 suggests that subsidence with this high is working to clear
some of the most persistent stratus (other than along the immediate
shore of Lake Huron). So, expect a bit more in the way of sunshine
today, but with a notable degree of both morning stratus pockets as
well as afternoon diurnal cumulus as daytime heating lifts this area
of enhanced low level moisture. With a fair degree of clear skies
over the area, there may be a period of shallow fog in the early
morning due to decent radiational cooling. With more in the way of
sun, high temperatures should respond and climb into the lower to
mid 70s this afternoon.

Re: Clueless Kim Adams doesn't understand lake effect cloud cover
I am in full agreement with the NWS on this.
Whereas partly cloudy skies were enveloping Ann Arbor much of the afternoon yesterday, 35 miles to the NE in my neighborhood I had complete overcast all afternoon thanks to Lake Huron.

By the beginning of the evening it was probably cloudy in Ann Arbor… I know in Wayne we had clouds by about 4 after some early sun.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 6:43 amI am in full agreement with the NWS on this.

That's correct. Clouds had moved in prior to the conclusion of yesterday's game.

MW, when are you going to offer up your expertise as a part time weatherman?

I think I already do.
Finally seeing some sun in my locale. A narrow ribbon of clearing has worked its way over my area. It will be temporary, but at least there'll be some holes in the cloud cover today unlike most of yesterday.

If her forecast had counted from only 5PM onward, she would've performed an OK job of forecasting for today.
The dense cloud cover finally thinned in a major way over all but the shoreline areas and portions of the east side over the past hour. Skies have turned beautiful here. Partly cloudy with perfect temps.
