Thats a damn shame. Did a very good job of newscasting IMHO. Maybe they can get Susanne Geha back? With Chopper 8!

Definitely on the Mt Rushmore of hottest personalities at WOOD, along with Teresa Weakley.

Apparently, Emily will be transitioning into a new role in communications for the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids.
Kind of like decades ago when WOOD-TV reporter/anchor Jane Brierley left to do communications work with the former Butterworth Hospital in G.R. (I believe she's now doing communications/external relations for Mary Free Bed Hospital).

Seems there are some other reports/anchors who have gone into public relations for Grand Rapids area hospitals although I have no idea if any are still in those jobs.

Carrie Manders (WZZM 13 health reporter)
Lisa LaPlante-Nedoff (one of the Fox 17 reporters when they started their news division)
Sarah Broadhead (Fox 17 morning news anchor, replaced by Deanna Falzone)

And this isn't something new: I know 1980s era reporter Mark Savage from WZZM was public relations at Palisades Nuclear Plant down near South Haven in the mid 90s.

Lisa picked up from the Kent County Health Department and went to the Denver area in '15, if my recollection holds true. Steve Kelso, who did some time before the camera for News 8 then led communications for the KCHD till he retired in May of this year.

There are all kinds of examples of reporters who left electronic media for the "safety" of institutional communications, another is Tara Hernandez, who did sports for a while at 17 and PR for Gerald R. Ford International for a time, too. Most recently, Leon Hendrix went from 8 to the GRPS to Steelcase.

Can’t blame Emily Linnert for leaving TV8 but she is also leaving the corporation that owns TV8. The conglomerates that own TV stations have become increasingly tight fisted and expected their news staffs to do more with fewer resources and often on less salary.

Going way back, Matt McLogan left Wood TV 35-36 years ago to be the GVSU communications guy. He retired as a VP at GVSU.

Why bust your butt with hours all over the map when you can get better hours, equivalent or better salary often with a better benefit package. I recall the late Lee Van Ameyde spent nearly 40 years at WZZM, much or all as news anchor. He was far from wealthy in his too short retirement.
