Songwriter Will Jennings dead at 80

Unread post by ChrisWL1980 »

Jennings was responsible for writing a number of Billboard #1 hits, including Barry Manilow's "Looks Like We Made It," Whitney Houston's "Didn't We Almost Have It All," Steve Winwood's "Higher Love" and "Roll with It," and the Oscar-winning "Up Where We Belong" by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes and "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. In fact, he co-wrote just about every hit Steve Winwood had during the '80s with the exception of "Freedom Overspill." Other notable songs he co-wrote include Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" and Dionne Warwick's "I'll Never Love This Way Again."

Say what you want about the slick production and "Boomer revival" of "Back In the High Life", but that was a terrific album. That's a great legacy to leave on its own.

As a fan of Traffic, I was glad to see Winwood "back in the high life again". :hat
