2, 4, 50 and 62 have info on screen right now.

Zero info on screen on 7, and zero mention during what appeared to be a pre-recorded 12:42p weathercast.

There also is zero info on screen on WMYD.
Their app pushed it out however. You really should consider something that tells you this stuff. I got my standard 4 alerts despite it being well east of me.

I'm not under a flash flood warning but am under my third flood advisory since last night.
So if you’re in the desert and have a dry riverbed next to you then you need to worry about a flash flood. If you’re in your living room that’s extremely unlikely. If you’re out in it then those app alerts are where it’s at. Warning info on your TV about it isn’t horribly useful since being in your house isn’t likely dangerous in that situation. Maybe there are a few houses in a flood plain that would be a problem but by and large we are talking roads and streets acting like riverbeds.

I still contend the number of people who are relying solely on the station to tell them about it is microscopic and so this criticism is rather overstated.

You make it sound like it’s 1995 and throngs of people are hitting their TV sets ala the phone booth scene in airplane to find out what’s going on. It’s just no longer the case. We are 10-15 years from this entire scenario being something you read about and maybe kids ask about “what they used to do when the weather got bad”.

MWmetalhead wrote: Fri Aug 02, 2024 1:02 pm It is true that local newscast viewership is low as a percentage of the total population.
And the percentage of those viewers connected 6 ways to Sunday with repetitive alerts coming at them on their phones is likely in the high 90% range.

Your complaint may literally apply to 13 people.

MWmetalhead wrote: Fri Aug 02, 2024 1:05 pm I doubt it. If that were true, all area TV stations would get out of the weather forecasting & alerting business.
No… I’m not saying weather isn’t useful. I’m saying most of the population gets alerts on their phones for that stuff through various apps. So therefore the number of people who didn’t know because an alert didn’t appear on their tv screen is blunted and microscopic. We are in the era of instant information now. Your interpretation is outdated.

We are probably sooner or later going to get weather alerts the way we get amber alerts. They won’t kill off the weatherman because of it.
