What are your thoughts on men beating up women in a sanctioned event?

Unread post by bmw »

While the media continues to obsess over Trump's (admittedly ill-advised) comment about Kamala Harris' race and leads people to believe that JD Vance actually had sex with a couch when no such thing happened, this is apparently perfectly ok and normal...
VILLEPINTE, France (AP) — Imane Khelif of Algeria won her opening Olympic boxing bout on Thursday when opponent Angela Carini of Italy quit after just 46 seconds.

Khelif was disqualified from the 2023 world championships after failing an unspecified gender eligibility test, and her presence at the Paris Olympics has become a divisive issue.

Carini and Khelif exchanged only a few punches before Carini walked away and abandoned the bout, an extremely unusual occurrence in Olympic boxing. Carini, whose headgear apparently became dislodged at least once before she quit, didn’t shake Khelif’s hand after the decision was announced, but she cried in the ring on her knees.

Afterward, a still-tearful Carini said she quit because of intense pain in her nose after the opening punches. Carini, who had a spot of blood on her trunks, said she wasn’t making a political statement and was not refusing to fight Khelif.

Can we at least all agree that men should not be allowed to beat up women for Olympic medals?

Also, drives me crazy that the media universally refers to this person as "her." That is not correct. It is a dude.

I agree.

I also have an issue with transgender people competing in races with biological women, be it swimming, track and field, etc. It simply is not fair to the biological women.

I do think this topic belongs in The Stadium.

Watching the video of the fight she got hit with a rather non-descript punch and quit… one single punch. I think the rumors of the other persons hormone situation led the Italian to do this in protest. Her account that it hurt too much doesn’t pass the smell test based on her reaction after one lousy punch. I’m not quite buying what’s being sold here.

For completely verifiably legitimate situations a man could hurt a woman pretty easily in most cases but not all. There are women out there that could kick any of our asses.

Glad you agree, but of course you would rather this be in a different forum. It is people on your side of the political aisle who are advocating for and normalizing this.

What are you suggesting here exactly? That the fight was in fact between 2 biological females?

My issue with it is unfair athletic competition, hence it belongs in the stadium. YOU, not me, are making this an overtly political issue.

I’m suggesting we don’t have official confirmation from anybody of exactly what we are looking at. We have lots of hand wringing and outrage generating culture wars garbage from the right however… forgive me if I don’t take my water cooler issue information from people who can make Bud Light a political controversy.

And yeah this shouldn’t be political. It’s between the athletes and the IOC on rules for competition.

Actually, doing some research it appears it was. She was born a girl and is a woman. The "DNA test" she supposedly failed was administered by a disgraced testing agency run by a heroin dealer and no one even knows what kind of test it was.

Besides which, she's lost something like 30% of her boxing matches.

Not a political issue? Are you kidding me?

Did both of you miss the fact that the Biden administration just a few months ago amended (or depending on who you ask, "clarified") Title IX to include gender identity? Beginning August 1 (ie, today), schools cannot discriminate on the basis of gender identity. Translation: The federal government has just forced all public schools to allow men to play in women's sports.

Were these men held back or something?

Anywho… I don’t think such a ban quite does that. You would have to prove discrimination in court first and you can bet there will be challenges.

I agree, men shouldn't beat up women in a boxing match.

She was born a woman... she was born with female genitalia. You should be ashamed..

She's from Algeria.. where being gay or transgender is against the law.

But that's not the issue you brought up in the title or topic of this thread. You talked about an Olympic boxing match, which should be discussed in The Stadium. Now if you want to discuss Title 9 or federal regulations, (which you obviously did want to, but decided to weasel your way into it) that seems fine in this forum.

Agree with Honeyman. You back doored what you really wanted to talk about. Maybe update the thread title. I also believe the other reason you posted this is at the beginning of the thread. The big thread here today has been Trump being an ass and getting called out and you are trying to get the heat off of it even though you somewhat admitted he was an ass.
