My guess would be to move 92.9 to 91.3 the only way for CFCO-FM to increase power. Blackburn may have plans to shut down AM 630, that could be in the works. You may want to look into 920 in Wingham that may be a similar situation. 920 might be filling for a FM application as well. It’s possible Blackburn is turning off the AM’s due to high maintenance costs and audience loss to FM. Keep in mind that we’re talking 1250 watts at 433 feet, that is not a translator signal but a full power fm.

Despite the low power, it's much higher than 92.9. I'm guessing it's to replace 630. Chatham isn't very large and to my knowledge the station doesn't target anything outside of Kent County.

Blackburn might decide to do something similar with CHOK in Sarnia soon. One opening is 104.7 which can operate with 3,000 watts at 100 meters HAAT.

CFCO 630 and CHOK 1070 are two of the best AM signals left in Ontario outside the Horseshoe. Even a Class A has nowhere near the coverage of either.

They can be the best signals, but if the people don't listen to AM it doesn't matter. The cost to maintain AM is astronomical. FM is where the audience is. Unfortunately AM is not a music platform anymore. Just wondering as to how much interference this could cause in the Port Huron area for that 91.3 that University of Michigan has their programs on

CHOK could use 103.3 ever since that was abandoned. They'll ditch 1070 first chance they get.
CFOS Owen Sound will be off AM soon too. That leaves Windsor and CKNX as the only AMs near Michigan (unless you count CFPL 980, which puts a marginal signal into Port Huron).

I honestly think in time Blackburn will shut down all 3 of their remaining AM facilities. They will save money and have all new FM stations. And now that the CRTC allows one broadcast company to operate 3 FM’s in one market this would be financially beneficial for Blackburn. I just looked on the FCC Info (www.fccinfo.com)website and it is indeed a CP for CFCO.
