The chip is known as the NXP TEF6686. It sounds like it is even better than the DSP circuit that the current Sangean, Eton/Grundig, and CCrane radios use right now.

Better sensitivity/selectivity from new RF DSP Chip
Re: Better sensitivity/selectivity from new RF DSP Chip
From a Quick read and look at the manual presented.
I am guessing it does not support SSB/CW operation on the shortwave bands.
Not having that function limits severely what you can listen to on the SW bands/
It Will NOT be on my XMAS wish list.

Re: Better sensitivity/selectivity from new RF DSP Chip
It's true that the radios with it right now do not have SSB. One of the receivers is at a low wholesale price however.

Some radios that combine that kind of high performance with a BFO might be on the way. The technology to manufacture them at a reasonable price appears to be close.

Re: Better sensitivity/selectivity from new RF DSP Chip
I guess a do-it-all radio would be very expensive, I could live without The FM band and all the digital data you can pull out,
give me a good long wave, AM, SW radio I can afford. My TecSun portable suffers from proor AM and Long wave due to the size of the intermal antrenna. FM and SW bands seem to be fairly good. Ext antenna connected on FM or SW bands really does well.

Re: Better sensitivity/selectivity from new RF DSP Chip
Honestly, the most selective, sensitive chips out right now are used in HD receivers.
