I wasn't raised in a religious home but I faintly remember seeing this briefly on INSP, which was ch 26 on the cable TV service we had in Bedford twp Michigan. Even at a young age this looked cringy, seeing it now, it didn't age well either.

Honestly, some really weird stuff came out in the late 80s/early 90s when I was growing up.

I remember seeing this on CBN/The Family Channel. Alongside "Superbook" and "The Flying House," two anime series based on Bible stories, animated by Tatsunoko Productions (the same studio that did "Speed Racer" and "Battle of the Planets"). I am no fan of Pat Robertson, but those shows were my introduction to Japanese animation. I bet Robertson would love knowing that the shows he commissioned started someone on an anime fandom path that would lead to watching tentacle porn. :rollin (That's not me, by the way.)

I also seem to recall them airing "Peppermint Place," which grew out of a local children's show on WFAA-TV Dallas/Fort Worth hosted by Jerry "Mr. Peppermint" Haynes (1927-2011). Haynes can be seen on YouTube covering the JFK assassination on WFAA on 11/22/63.

For a time in the 1990s, Gerbert had a brief stint on public television. It was similar to the series on CBN and the religious channels, but with the Christian content replaced with secular material. I also recall this version included "Ploom", a feather boa-type creature who was previously seen on The Monte Carlo Show in 1980.

You grew up 20 years too late to experience this whilst doing so...

Pee Wee aside, it's pretty hard to out-weird some of the Krofft Bros TV creations.
