Radio Stations And Personality References In The Movies

Unread post by CK-722 »

Here are the ones I can think of, from mainly in the Great Lakes Region.

Larry Lujack WLS "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
J P McCarthy WJR "The Rosary Murders"
Reese Rickards WJJD "Somewhere In Time"
Arthur Penhallow WRIF "The Upside Of Anger"
WJR Referenced (Historically Inaccurate) in "Jersey Boys"
WPOP Hartford, CT Joey Reynolds (Uncredited Actor, Not Joey Reynolds, and Unnamed) in "Jersey Boys"
KRML Carmel, CA Clint Eastwood Portrayed as the DJ in a Studio Mockup in "Play Misty For Me"

In "The Rosary Murders", the voice of J P McCarthy is heard saying "This is JP on JR in the AM".

In reality, it was Paul Drew from CKLW who traveled to The Roostertail to hear "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", by Frankie Valli, and the group went to the Riverside Drive studios in Windsor to meet with Paul Drew. Interestingly, it was ultimately Clint Eastwood's (who ironically also once owned KRML) executive decision to use WJR instead of CKLW, and to not Credit Joey Reynolds or WPOP in any way in the movie. One theory is that they approached CKLW about it, but they wanted too much money for the credits, and WJR didn't ask for much in return.
Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

Same (x, y, z), different (t)

I know the radio voice wasn't real in The Warriors but wouldn't it be cool if she was, (Voiced by the late Lynn Thigpen.)

The late Casey Kasem in the 1984 movie "Ghostbusters" "And the countdown continues". Also in 1976 movie "The Gumball Rally" (with Gary Busey) both movies heard on radio.

Dick Purtan on Collision Course starring Jay Leno and Pat Morita. Movie flopped horribly but I thought it was awesome. 80s Detroit

Not from a movie but in the original Broadway production of Grease, a recording of Joe Niagra (WIBG, Philadelphia) was played before the show started. The theater was done up to look like a high school auditorium. Great effect.

I remember Walter Cronkite doing the voice of an eagle in a cartoon some years ago.

Are you sure? No reference to it on IMDb. Maybe it was somebody immitating Cronkite.
