Jackson area OTA

Unread post by kc8yqq »

IS there anyone in Buzzboard-land that lives in the Jackson area receiving TV stations from outside the market? If so, how high is the antenna (tower or rooftop)? What stations can you receive and how well? If you have any other comments, please feel free to add them.

I'm familiar with the various websites that tell me what I should be able to receive. I would like to hear from someone that actually receives these instead.

Thanks in advance.

OK, from an Antennas Direct antenna pointed WNW at 40' 10 miles north of Jackson:
6-1
10-1-3
17-1-4
23-1-4
41-1-4
43-1-6
47-1-5
53-1-2
64-1-3

I didn't note what net is on what channel, but that's the channels that come in reliably.
Yes this is a duplicate post from a post on another section of the board, but hey, I got off my ass and checked for you. :)

Thanks HD74. I was considering buying a tower back when I posted this topic. I live in Stonegate Farms and from amplified rabbit ears I can get 6, 10, 23, 47, and 53. Without the amplification, 23 is gone.

I'm amazed you can get all the locals with rabbit ears.
I would definitely recommend an outdoor antenna where you are.
I have an antenna mounted on a T-post outside my barn that works far better than an indoor antenna.
Just make sure you get one with a VHF element for WILX.

Can you pull in Detroit or Toledo from where you are?

I can only pull in the Lansing/Jackson area stations with the equipment I have. I've been in touch with Antenna Men about putting up a 100' tower. According to the the grid they provided me with, I might get some of the Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids stations, but not Detroit/Toledo.

The tower is up! It's 80' and the antenna is roughly 10' higher.

I'm getting most of the Detroit stations, but it varies on each of the TVs. Channel 38 comes in but is unwatchable 90% of the time. Channel 2 is the next most difficult to pull in.

From Lansing I'm getting low power 29.

According to the installers from The Antenna Men, I should be able to get Flint, Toledo, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, and Grand Rapids. I haven't tried them yet, but will shortly.

I also had them put up an FM antenna, but haven't done a band scan yet.

Remember that WADL's stick is about 15-20 miles east of the other full power Detroit stations
