This loss is on Hinch. You had Vanasco throwing, but you go to Maeda down by one run. I knew right there he would give up a run or two (turns out it was three). Why would you go to your worst pitcher in a close game against a possible playoff team? Even Shelby Miller would have been a better choice.

They are clearly limiting Madden's innings, which is why he isn't starting, and went less than 4 innings. It's still better to start him than pigeonhole Brieske to a single inning to start a game. Hinch has gotten by with this strategy, but the flaws are starting to show.

Good thing I prioritized the Tigers over the Lions! Only flipped to Lions during commercials until game was over.

Seattle and Minnesota both won today. They have to sweep KC.
They/them, non-binary and proud.

It may come down to the last few days, where the Tigers play the White Sox. Their record will determine how hard the Sox try. If they are at 118, 119 losses, they’ll try their hardest not to reach 120 or 121. If they already have that mark (current record after beating Oakland today is 35-115), I see the Sox just packing it in, going at three quarter speed, just get the damned season over. That of course benefits the Tigers.

Minnesota certainly has the tougher schedule. Their next 6 games are on the road in Cleveland and in Boston. They close out at home against Baltimore.

Basically, Detroit needs to just get to within 1 game of them going into the final 3 games of the year to have a reasonable chance.

Remember again, a tie means Minnesota gets the spot. Tigers have to be at least a game up after 162.

Since August 23 the Tigers have the best record in the American League at 14-6. The last game Javier Baez played was August 22.

Tigers 7, Royals 6.

Minnesota lost tonight, so the Tigers are 1.5 games back.

Is it me or do Benetti and Dirks have an extraordinary chemistry in the broadcast booth?

Looks like the Twinkies are winning tonight; Tigers & Royals are knotted at a run apiece after six.. Royals had the bases loaded without scoring in two consecutive innings.

(Edit)
Tigers win 3-1 in 10! Great work from the bullpen tonight.

What a great win, and man, just how big is tomorrow's game? They could pull to within 2 of KC.

I thought they were basically done after losing 2 out of 3 to the Cubs a few weeks ago.

Skubal goes tonight; he hasn't fared well in Kauffman Stadium, allowing 16 runs (15 earned runs) across 15 innings in his last three starts there.

Skubal has struggled in his last two starts, so tonight's game is H***. He has two starts left in the season (barring the playoffs, anyway), tonight and next Wednesday vs. Tampa Bay. We need Cy Young Skubal to show up. Hope the offense can give him some run support tonight and ease the load on the pitching staff.
