Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
You are likely correct. The central U.S. - including Chicago - had some oppressively hot days during the 1930s. That is when Michigan's current all-time high temperature record was set (in Mio of all places).
I could've sworn the equation used to calculate the heat index was changed at some point in the 2000s, but now I am unable to find any record of that.
I am unsure how many other times the heat index in Chicago since its adoption in 1979 has reached 118.

Big time storms near Lansing right now. Radar in GRR was showing wind estimates just above the surface of 90 to 100 mph across Ionia County right along I-96 about 10 to 15 minutes ago.
It does appear a tornado likely touched down across portions of Alpine & Plainfield Twps just north of Grand Rapids about 45 minutes ago.
There are now about 75,000 power outages in Consumers Energy's service territory.

Great job by channel 4.
Also looks like one may be trying to form near Fenton (no warning yet).
A lot of lofted debris between Burton and Grand Blanc.

Those storms by Lansing have triggered warnings for Eaton and Ingham advertising 80mph winds.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2023 9:18 pmGreat job by channel 4.

Indeed. I'm also seeing a possible tornado spin up on radar along I-96 just south of Williamston.

Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
Jackson County is now under the 80mph gun so these storms are not weakening a whole lot…

Tornado is likely headed to Webberville. I-96 is very dangerous in eastern Ingham County right now.

WHERE THE FUCK IS CHANNEL 62????
Someone there needs to be fired. Is Karen Carter manning the weather office there tonight?
Completely inexcusable. This is a possibly deadly tornado moving into Fowlerville.
Edit - 50 is live, but 62 isn't. That makes no sense. Holy shit is their control room is inept. Ahmed is live on 50.

Re: Channel 4 wins yet again
At least one person watching radar returns thinks the tornado may have been an EF4 with 155-175mph winds… the warning is gone now. I expect whatever happened there to have been significant.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2023 9:43 pmWHERE THE FUCK IS CHANNEL 62????

We're downstairs in Brighton at west of 23 and south of 96. Sirens went off.

There is a renegade cell ahead of the main squall line moving due east toward Ferndale that is causing concern to me.
Things are quite bad near 14 Mile and Woodward right now. Definitely have had gusts to 65 mph. Rain is coming down torrentially. Lightning was already continuous a half hour before the rain started.
