White buying power must be 2-4 times more though.I once read that the median income of black people was only about 4-5 thousand dollars per year, and it wasn't too long ago, yet they are often portrayed in commercials as living in $700,000 houses. Yet more distortion. My beef is with the MEDIA.

To add further, of course different groups of people should be represented in commercials, I mean not just white people eat Raisin Bran, use Windex, and wash there hair with Pert Plus Shampoo.

Whenever I watch TV, particularly daytime TV, I notice most commercials have more black people than White, especially if it's a car or drug commercial. Why not portray them in correct proportions? I've heard that only about 5 corporations make all the commercials, but I can't find who they are or how to contact them.

What color crayons remain from those you've eaten that can be used to write your letter of outrage to the producers of these disproportionately cast commercials?

I have a feeling the black and brown ones are untouched.

BillT is somewhat correct in the originating post of this thread. The Nielsen chart that TC Talks followed up with shows why.

The question may not be what percentage of the populace is a certain race or ethnicity. It may be what percentage is watching commercial television, as opposed to those spending extra money for commercial free news, entertainment and sports.

Its like the corporate company mission statement pictures. Tons of African Americans in the picture depicting diversity. Zero of those in the picture are no where to be found in the office.

The point is, it makes people feel better.
