The Trump mojo is off considerably. I can't believe the Evangelical crowd is cheering him on for hiding his sexcapade with a porn star.
For Kristian Trumpers are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.

Do you really want to go there? I have first-hand experience with corruption in the legal system. I've gone into detail in here in the past, but for now I will leave it at that since I don't feel like re-hashing it.

In all honesty his lawyers, handlers, wife, someone needs to muzzle him and then sit him down and tell him to pretend to act like an adult on trial for felonies. While his base won't be swayed, the voters he will need in addition to his base are probably already starting to tire of his antics and will turn elsewhere be it Biden or Kennedy. He was on Truth Social bitching about Biden out fundraising him and what does he do on off days for the trial. Plays golf and all his time should be spent campaigning. When the final numbers are counted and if he loses it will be on him.

bmw wrote: Tue Apr 30, 2024 10:35 am I'd call it more "political" than "productive." I think Trump knows he's probably going to be convicted of something. So he has made the political calculation that if he ends up in jail over violating a gag order that he can argue suppression of his freedom of speech, and he'd much rather that be the point of discussion than the details of his trial. I think he also has concluded that that would soften the blow of an eventual conviction, that he can claim that the system that the system that convicted him is the same system that months prior threw him in jail for exercising his right to free speech.
That’s a pretty poor calculation… gag orders are pretty standard tools in the tool kit and courts haven’t invalidated their use on any free speech grounds. I think he can’t help himself which is usually the sign of a child rather than a fully functioning adult.

So your support of Trump stems from your distrust of the legal system? That distrust extends across the nearly 100 charges?

First off, let's not exaggerate those "nearly 100" charges. They really boil down to 4 or 5 charges. People love parading around that number because it sounds big, but so many of those counts are duplicatave.

I've personally experienced what it is like when small town politics leads to corruption among the police and among the prosecuting attorney. The local powers that be arrested my dad, made him sit in a jail cell for a day, made him spend money he didn't have on a defense attorney, all to end where at the preliminary exam, the prosecutor dropped all charges literally half a minute before he had to actually present evidence to a judge. They did it for no reason other than to drag him through the process as retaliation for him exercising his first amendment rights. And that is small town northern Michigan politics. Trump is dealing with New York City politics, so this is on a scale orders of magnitude bigger.

So to a degree, my view of the Trump prosecution is probably somewhat biased by my personal experience. Bragg's sole motivation is to harm Trump. That's how I see it.

Setting aside your completely inappropriate insult of one of my family members who you don't even know, all I'll say is that the free speech in question was not political nature and that it would have been me instead of him who would have been arrested if not for my alibi. I would tell you the whole story, but it would be multiple paragraphs and you literally wouldn't believe much of any of it. So I'm not going to bother.

Trump now has an excuse for not testifying, even though it is a lie. From a longer article..
Former President Donald Trump was dunked on for a brazen lie he told outside the courthouse that is hosting his hush money trial on Thursday.

The presumptive GOP nominee falsely claimed that Judge Juan Merchan’s narrow gag order — which bans Trump from talking about the jurors in the case, witnesses and court staff, prosecutors and their families — meant he couldn’t take the stand to defend himself.

“Well, I’m not allowed to testify. I’m under a gag order, I guess,” Trump complained to reporters.

Oops, new excuse needed

The trial resumed Friday with Judge Juan Merchan clarifying that the gag order he imposed on Trump before the trial began does not prevent him from testifying in his own defense, should he choose to do so.

Speaking to reporters outside court Thursday, the former president falsely claimed that he could not testify because of the gag order.

The “does not prohibit you from taking the stand” or limit what he can say, Merchan told Trump.
