Who pays for this?
Does everyone get a free education, no matter how much of a "Big Dummy Walking" they was in high school?
Who pays for this?
Who pays for the petroleum subsides or agriculture subsides? We all do, because they provide a benefit to society.
So a degree in basket weaving would be considerably less than one in Applied Neurosciences?km1125 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 6:29 pm We already subsidize colleges and universities by the plethora of ways that folks get tuition assistance. That only caused the rates for every single degree to skyrocket.
Colleges and universities should also be pricing the degree on the value it brings to society. It should cost less to get a useless degree rather than one you could actually make a living on.
This is what I was talking about when I queried TC Talks. It's great to give away college tuitions if the students are not Big Dummies Walking.Rate This wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 6:30 pmSo a degree in basket weaving would be considerably less than one in Applied Neurosciences?km1125 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 6:29 pm We already subsidize colleges and universities by the plethora of ways that folks get tuition assistance. Fascinating belief, any concrete data to back this up? Because to me it sounds like a bit of racism based on the school you cite.Round Six wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 8:42 pmThis is what I was talking about when I queried TC Talks. There's a nickname used often for Wayne County Community College. Detroit High School. The inside joke there is everyone that gets their name right on the exam gets a B. Anyone on here that has gone there will grudgingly agree there is a potpourri of mutants attending there.
Same with trade schools.
TC is right. We sorely need tradesmen sooner than later. Unfortunately, anyone with enough gray matter to become a good craftsman will have shagged some sort of scholarship or paid apprenticeship. The one's getting the free ride won't be able to fix anything, if they even finish.
Biden is certainly busy buying votes this year using debt forgiveness.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 10:14 am The blanket bailout sought by Biden amounted to nothing more than an attempt at buying votes. It was a disgusting proposal, frankly.
https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/12/politics ... index.htmlIn total, the Biden administration has authorized the cancellation of $153 billion in student loan debt for nearly 4.3 million people. That’s more than 9% of all outstanding federal student loan debt.
As the November election approaches, the Biden administration has been eager to show how much student loan debt it has canceled, making new announcements about debt relief roughly once a month and sending emails directly to eligible borrowers. Earlier this week, Biden announced a new group of student debt relief proposals that could possibly go into effect this fall.
As somebody who has around $70,000 in student loans around his neck that I had no real concept for what I was buying at 18 and out on my own…zzand wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 8:58 am I know for many this is an unpopular opinion, but if I take out a loan for anything it is up to me to pay it off. I feel those who took out student loans should also pay them off, not us taxpayers and save your arguments about predatory loan companies, the auto loan industry is full of them too and taxpayers aren't being asked to bail those customers out.
I agree, yet I can list thousands of corporations that received your tax dollars in subsides. It seems that this policy is the great equalizer for things like tax breaks and bidless government contracts.zzand wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 8:58 am I know for many this is an unpopular opinion, but if I take out a loan for anything it is up to me to pay it off. Sounds great, do we get to choose not to enrich petroleum and military complex global corporations? And what about ADM and corporate farm companies. We should vote on it all. Guess which subsidy will win overwhelmingly?
That would be impossible to do. Unless you have 11 months to check boxes for funding every year. There are probably that many boxes.
So in your opinion, other people should be responsible for paying for your dumb decisions?
