Another month, another burst of strong job gains. Employers added 303,000 jobs in March on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Labor Department reported on Friday.
It was the 39th straight month of job growth and a much larger gain than forecast. The unemployment rate fell to 3.8 percent, from 3.9 percent in February.
The continuing strength, labor market analysts say, may increase confidence among investors and the Federal Reserve that the U.S. economy has reached a healthy equilibrium in which a steady roll of commercial activity, growing employment and rising wages coexist.
It’s a remarkable change from a year ago, when top financial analysts were largely convinced that a recession was only months away.

It's the economy stupid!
It's the economy stupid!
Remember when this was a Republican war cry? For a guy with dementia, Biden's keeping the economy stable.

Don't ask those who build RVs about this. Plants closing for good left and right.
Re: It's the economy stupid!
Maybe a fair amount of Amish furniture made in that area as well.
As far as the subject phrase is concerned, I believe that was more a Billy Bob Clinton campaign mantra than anything attached to the R-side of the aisle...

Re: It's the economy stupid!
And yet the labor participation rate is just now recovering to where it bottomed out under the Obama/Biden administration!!
Re: It's the economy stupid!
Are you really celebrating Trump having the participation rate move from 63% to 64% in 3 years before it utterly collapsed during COVID? That's really stupid. I took a piece of paper across my screen... it went above that low point in late 2022.

Re: It's the economy stupid!
Boy you are an idiot. When did the largest generation in the country's history start to retire?

Re: It's the economy stupid!
About 2005. You'll also notice that even though there were more baby boomers continuing to retire from 2016-2020, the labor participation rate was still able to increase.
Re: It's the economy stupid!
But it definitely reversed a trend that had been happening since 2008, didn't it?
Re: It's the economy stupid!
But he piggybacked on Obama’s economy…. So this would have happened anyways. Trump did nothing special during his time in office to cause increased participation. Biden started from scratch because of COVID. This is exhibit A in why presidents don’t magically make the economy do anything.km1125 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 1:17 pmBut it definitely reversed a trend that had been happening since 2008, didn't it?
Even then the absolutely tiny bump up that Trump got right at the end had plateaued for several months before COVID hit. Notice the line is flat for a while at the end.
Re: It's the economy stupid!
You funny!!! Look at that trend line the ENTIRE TIME that Obama/Biden were in charge from 2008-2016. TRENDING DOWNWARD the whole time.. Not a dip ('cause of 2008) and recovery, but a general trend DOWN.
If they would have had four more years the line likely would have ended up exactly where it bottomed out due to COVID in 2020!
Re: It's the economy stupid!
The line ticks down for the exact reason TC implied… 1st half baby boomers (1946-1954 or so) leaving the labor force in droves by retiring early through buy outs after the 2008 crash. Also the last of the silent generation… well… silently moving on. That went on and on and on.km1125 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 3:19 pm

Do you see how shallow the downward trend is pre covid and how sharp the drop is when Covid hits. What you are saying makes no sense at all. And then it makes even less sense seeing as it has increased steadily since Biden has been in charge. You simply cannot make this flex work. Even then we are arguing about a range of 6%… from 66 to 63 to 60 to 63 again. This isn’t your balliwick clearly.
Re: It's the economy stupid!
Not that Chicago or New York or California will ever turn red from blue, or even trend to purple, but those folks in those cities are not anxious about the economy, those people are dealing with budget breaking waves of recent undocumented immigrants impacting city services , causing budget deficits, and impacting safety of neighborhoods.newly arrived undocumented immigrants unable to speak English are a severe challenge in local schools already devastated by teacher shortages and COVID learning losses. California voted in free health care for all undocumented immigrants, and currently is looking at a large budget deficit $100B on a budget of some $300B, if memory serves me correctly.
The wave of undocumented immigrants requiring food, housing, clothing and education is overwhelming cities already dealing with mental health problems mixed into homelessness and drug addiction.
Those people of those cities won’t exactly be confident in the next step of Dem leadership at the top to solve this ongoing problem, that being Kamala Harris.
These Dems will not vote for Trump but they may stay home or vote for RFK or Jill Stein or Cornell West.
The southern border being open to 8M visitors and counting, from some 150 different countries of the world is going to be the #1 election issue come November. Not necessarily the economy or inflation.
National polls are reflecting this.

And baby boomers stopped retiring in 2016?? Too Funny!
Re: It's the economy stupid!
Is that the same Kamala Harris that Biden appointed three years ago (almost exactly to the day) to fix the border problem?? Didn't she do that??
