I think it was planned for a while. I saw a photo on Facebook a couple months ago from their summer intern (Kolton Woods) and among the notes the weather staff left for him at the end of his internship, Terri made mention of her upcoming retirement.

I think she's going out on her own terms, including the amount of fanfare.

Best of luck to Terri, hope she enjoys her retirement, wherever it takes her.
Woe to you, oh earth and sea
For the Devil sends the beast with wrath
Because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast
For it is a human number
Its number is six hundred and sixty-six

terri did make a slight mention of it on kolton's post. he's been doing weather for the muskegon channel for 3 years now. we've been paying him to get thru college at valpo. development of younger talent is something i miss a lot. kolton went to the high school my wife taught at and he's been spot on since day 1.

30-ish years ago Terri and I spent an afternoon playing golf. She sought advice, wondering if moving from 3 to 8 would be wise, I counseled a move north, in retrospect, making me appear far wiser than I am. She is one of the kind ones, loving AM drive and never coveting Chief.
If I Heart GR really wanted to save money, it would sublet two of it's three floors at 77 Monroe Center.

Jim Geyer at WLNS is also retiring today. Something tells me there was some sort of incentive (positive or negative) for him and Terri to "retire".

Wouldn't be surprised. Both being NexStar owned, they would "job share" one person between two stations either physically or virtually like how Fox17 did for a while providing weather to Fox47 (WSYM) in Lansing.

So you're saying Blake Harms is getting called into a meeting tomorrow to hear about a new, unique opportunity for himself?

Jim mentioned he is 70 years old. I don't think he was pushed out.

And the trifecta of long-time meteorologists retiring at NexStar owned stations will soon complete. Tom Skilling has announced he will retire at the end of February 2024 from WGN Channel 9 in Chicago after 45 years at the station.

I can't be the only one who, before WGN split the local and national feeds, watched WGN News At Nine for Tom's weather reports even though they had little to no relevance with living in Michigan.
